I don't believe there are any product to get the smell of cat urine

out of carpet, but does anyone have any magical home remedies?

I have a 4 year kitty and I did have various problems with her after my husband died 2 years ago. After much anxiety, talking to this forum and many weeks of trying everything, I found out she didn't like the plastic cat liners I put in the litter boxes. (although that didn't do the trick for long)...

She has been fine now for well over 8 or 9 months.. with no mistakes...we just had a houseful of company for 5 days and several parties (as my daugher and her children and husband came home) and everyone came over for 3 nights in a row to party. Had a wonderful time, but lots of kids and "little bit" was put out.

She has peed in the computer room...and I was so sure she was past all that.

She goes outdoors when I let her but I have been stifling her going outside due to cold weather (she only weighs 5 lbs and is very tiny boned and very little thick fur. I actually do believe that it is related to my not opening the door when she wants. Now it's dark, she's little, loves to stalk, and I worry about her like I do a child.

Any help is always appreciated.

1. enzymes.

If you go to the pet store you will find several brands of an enzyme that will eat the odor in the carpet. Petzyme is one, I think. You saturate the area and cover with plastic so it stays moist and the odor should go away. Or follow the directions on the bottle of course.

I can understand Kitty not wanting to get near the people to get to her box or outside. I guess next time I'd move a litter box closer, or else put her where the litter box is kept.

2. Thank you for the tip about enzymes

I actually have 4 litter boxes in the house and 15 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren. There were alot of people here all at once (which is far from the usual) and I'm not used to that myself. It was kind of a reunion 2 years after my husband's death and everything was so festive I didn't even think about her being her old self. My kitties and I have been so used to living kind of a quiet, mellow life lately. There won't be many more parties like that here because my house has outgrown all the out of town families.

I'm sure she is probably retaliating -- she's so very used to being my world now...

My carpet is old and I also have a 14 year old persian that falls with the punches, and with her fur balls new carpet is not in my immediate future.

3. My two favorites (because they get the best client reviews) are

FON and Nature's Miracle. They both have enzymes to break down the urine odor.

Of course, I am an evil veterinarian therefore you should do the exact opposite of what I say because, according to many here on DU, by definition I always lie.

you are lying, so I will definitely look into these 2 products.

I don't think ANY veterinarian could ever be evil. Your love of animals has to be abounding!!!
I love kittens, cats and would have 10 cats if Little Bit would let me (lol) She's pretty territorial but my husband and I rescued her before her doom and she thinks she owns me.

7. Last week I saw a new product at PetSmart by Nature's Miracle

It is their Advanced Stain and Odor Remover. Instead of a mostly white container it is mostly red.

5. If whatever she soiled is washable, either in the tub or machine, try this.

My daughters dog was sprayed up close by a skunk. She was given the old peroxide bath but all my daughters clothes and the dogs collar stunk something horrible. I took a 5 gallon bucket with a cover. Added a large amount of Oxyclean with hot water. Put the lid on and let it sit for about 4 days, fully weighted down so all was under the liquid. I truly expected to have to throw all of the stuff out. Nope! Everything was fine, including her fairly new leather sneakers.

I don't use Oxyclean for much, don't think it is very good but it sure did the job on this stuff. Probably would have been good for the dog too.

get it at wal-mart. Excellent. Another good product is Zero Odor which I get on line.
