Good thoughts needed
My Quaker parrot has an upper respiratory infection. He's at the vets under a heat lamp getting an anti-biotic nebulizer and probably some IV fluids. Vet advises that today he hasn't wanted to take food or water. The vet also advises that the next 24 hours are critical and he gives the bird a 50/50 chance of recovery.

This little bird has had a hard life. He was "rescued" from a pet store that was going out of business. His previous owner knew little about birds and neglected him. Still, he's a good little bird. Not too nippy. Not obnoxiously loud. Will do his step ups. Smart. Observant. Inquisitive.

Please send him warm thoughts and good vibes. If you believe in a higher power, then please say a prayer for this little guy. May he have the will, the strength, and the care required to survive and heal.

Thanks.

2. Sending healing energies in his direction. What is his name?
It helps to know that when focusing. Sounds like he has a great future with you.

3. Thank you japple
His name is Chuckles. He likes to laugh - and bob his head as Quakers are prone to do.

I took him in to the vet first thing this morning and then talked to the vet at some length about mid day. I was at the clinic again late this afternoon and again spoke at length with the vet. Chuckles is resting under a heat lamp. He got an antibiotic nebulizer today - but no IV. While he did not eat or drink on his own he did take food and water and an oral antibiotic. He seems to be holding his own at this point and his odds of recovery remain at 50/50. The vet is looking for positive signs of improvement and apparently not observing further signs of deterioration. I have to view that as at least somewhat positive since sick birds often deteriorate very quickly. I did authorize another nebulizer treatment tomorrow if warranted and expressed my desire that the treatment lan be somewhat proactive and aggressive.

He's a sweet little bird. I'd like for him to have some really good days given his sad background.

12. UPDATE
Thank you all for your warm wishes and good thoughts.

The vet called this morning to let me know that Chuckles passed away during the night. I know he's in a better place now and I believe that I did the best I could to give him an opportunity to recover.

Safe journey my friend. I love you still and I will miss you. You'll always have a special place in my heart.

16. Your little Chuckles is flying with the angels. You gave him the best
care he'd ever had, but his poor little body couldn't handle the trauma from his former life. I know you will miss his laughter and I'm so sorry you had to go thru this with him. Dear little Chuckles, may you rest in peace. And may you find comfort in knowing you did all the right things for him. Love and peace to you, CB.

20. Chuckles got a letter today
Dated less than a week after his passing. Seems the vet group that attended him during his final day is opening another clinic somewhere in surburbia. I would have preferred a letter of condolence rather than a letter of solicitation.

I have another vet who cares for my two dogs. She has done an outstanding job for nearly a decade now. Even though she did not care for Chuckles, she did express her sympathy and acknowledge his loss. This crass commercialization makes me appreciate her efforts even more.
