Abused senior black Lab needs rescuing...
The rescue group I work with is asking for your help in saving this old black Lab. I don't expect anyone on my list to adopt him but I have seen miracles happen when I tell two friends and they tell two friends and they tell two friends... etc.

Would you please consider forwarding this email to your friends or posting it to your Facebook page or forum? Look at his picture, read his story and please see if your friends and contact list could help him - by adoption or forwarding his story... Please help us save the life of just one dog.

His story:
This poor boy is a senior Labrador Retriever mix. He came to DeKalb County Animal Services because he is a victim of animal cruelty. He was emaciated and dehydrated when animal control officers discovered him.

The dog's former owner made it clear that he did not feed or water his dog, because he did not want the dog anymore. The owner has been arrested and charged with animal cruelty. The dog is very nervous, and will need to be rescued by someone who can give him lots of love and patience.

This poor dog has not known much kindness in his life.

Please consider rescuing him and teaching him that people can be good and that life can be good.

Please contact me ASAP if you would like to rescue this poor dog. Please forward on to anyone you know who may like to help.

Please contact:

Thanks,
LaH

PS - We will do whatever has to be done to get him to whomever is kind enough to give him a forever home. I am on the transport crew.

2. I can't take in another dog, but I will help
transport if he finds a home up north. I'm a stationmaster (#627) on the Canine Underground Railroad

5. I had no idea there was a Canine Underground Railroad
That is so cool.

I'll certainly be in touch if my group gets a call to help with transport. Thanks for the offer. I'm in New England, my group is North East All Retriever Rescue http://www.nearr.com

6. It was very active until a couple of years ago.
Once transporters started communicating via the yahoogroups it seems to have died off. You had to be referred by a current member to be accepted. They published standards for safe transports. Here is the website

http://cur.tottinghamllc.com/

I'm pretty sure I knew some of NEARR's founders and I did some transports for them back in the day. Sheri Hearn Lazar, who inducted me into CUR, was active with them IRRC

4. Thanks everyone for your help
I will give an update if/when I get one. I'm just a member of another rescue group that has offered to help spread the word and we often don't get word from the originating group. I can say that there was someone in the Lounge that called about the dog and I don't see picture of him on petfinder any more so here's hoping something wonderful happened already.

I would still encourage you to forward the information to your peeps - I know from previous experience that it takes a whole lot of people to help save just one dog.

7. I'm in the Maryland area, and I called one of the rescue intake volunteers
that I work with, and she said that the email made the rounds, we got it up here. I don't know what the outcome was, just wanted to let you know that it has made the rounds in the rescues. I foster for a lab rescue here but I haven't seen him come in to our rescue, and he hasn't come in to another rescue I have fostered for, but the word is out.
