Need help or advice
a dear friend of mine is very distraught over two pit bulls, one just a puppy, being neglected at the house next door to hers. They are being left tied to a tree 24 hours a day, with no water and no shelter and it has been very cold!! They are being fed, but not enough.

She has contacted the humane society, but they said they will come pick up the dogs if she has somewhere for them to go. Even just someone who will foster them until new forever homes can be found. They said they have no room for them, and if she has the animal control pick them up they will be euthanized.

They are not mean or aggressive, just need someone to love them.

This one is the baby, she gets wrapped around a tree and has to stay that way all day.

1. Where in TX are you?
Have you tried to find a local pitbull rescue?

2. I must not have ever changed my profile
I live now on the gulf coast of alabama, east of mobile.

Both of the dogs are in Pensacola, Fl.

The older dog is getting worse since those photos were taken.

3. Next door?
As in confined on someone else's property? That could be a problem if the property owner/resident doesn't give consent to enter and take possession of the animal. Some groups/authorities will refuse to enter the property. If they (you) do then there is possible legal liability for doing so. Just sayin'.

Unfortunately, I am familiar with a similar situation here. I have a cousin whose next door neighbor was jailed - and her dogs were left in her yard in the heat of summer without food and with an empty water dish. Authorities and local rescue groups refused to enter the property to take possession of the animals. My cousin used a ladder and a garden hose to fill the water dish and threw the dogs food over the fence. Turned out the girl who was living there didn't own the home and was renting from an older family member. The property owner was located and contacted and he gave permission for the local animal shelter to enter the property and take possession of the dogs. The only reason that happened was because my cousin was persistent in his efforts to see that the animals got the care they needed. None of the authorities who were contacted and advised of the situation were willing to respond or to be proactive in resolving the situation.

Good luck. Please let us know what happens.

5. If she calls animal control, it's not likely they'll be picked up and euthanized.
It's more likely that they'll inform the owners that Florida Statute 828 (the animal cruelty statute), specifically 828.13, is very specific about food and water. Also that if they don't shape up, they stand to get fined and charged with a 3rd degree misdemeanor. Might be enough to wake up these owners to stop being idiots with their dogs.

I'll be happy to make some contacts up in that area and see if anyone has room. Please keep in touch with your friend, and keep my PM handy. If the dogs deteriorate further, I'll see if I know someone in the area that will disappear them.

Thanks for looking out for these pups.

7. she is desperate to do anything to help these dogs
she has pits of her own and it is killing her to see these dogs. She said she can now see the spine of the male, which means he is getting emaciated.

I am not sure who she talked to, but I think she said the humane society told her that they would put them down at the animal shelter. I could be wrong about that.

Is there any way that I could put her in touch with you, flvegan? I would appreciate any help you could give her very much.
