My little guy needs to drink more water, filtered and clean water, after his bladder stone surgery next week. I figured the flowing water would encourage him to drink more.....well....he's afraid of the noise the dish makes :(

He is not good about drinking water, so I am trying all avenues to get him to drink more. HOWEVER, my little baby, 10 week old kitten we adopted, she thinks it is a raging water park, and is more than happy to drink from the dish, among other things ha. She needs to be toweled off before she leaves the room.

Anyone have some tips on how to get my little fella to drink more water?

1. Try different bowls
Like different plastics, porcelain, metal, etc. I found mine have definite preferences in terms of bowls. For a while Woody insisted on mainly drinking out of the toilet!

I bought one of those waters as well and mine only drink out of it when it's off. Also, I feed cans of wet food with the gravy style to encourage more liquid consumption. Along the same line of thinking I put out milk, although Mr. Kitty prefers whole milk or half and half. I was advised by the vet that all the additional liquid consumption helps the kitties.

Unlike the splash or trickling function of the Drinkwell and Petmate fountains, the Cat It Fountain delivers fresh water by flowing it over a large, clear dome, which allows several cats to drink at once. The Cat It Fountain comes with one detachable food bowl as well as the requisite water bowl. Additional food bowls are available, as well as a Cat It Mat for floor protection. Be sure to order additional filters, as they must be changed frequently. Reservoir holds 100 oz. of water.

My friend has this and it makes no noise at all....

Product Description
All pets, especially cats, can become dehydrated for a few simple reasons. Cats are famous for being very picky about most everything in their lives. Most experienced cat owners tell stories about a cat that would rather stave than eat something they hate. When it comes to a cats water supply, they have strong likes and dislikes. Study after study has shown that cats prefer water that is at 61F because that is the temperature of natural spring water. Additional studies have shown that cats dislike water that has an odor such as chlorine. Plastics are porous and therefore retain the smell of chlorine or other chemicals used to clean the bowl as well as chemicals in room air such as fire retardants required to be in rugs and furniture. The facts are in and prove that cats will only drink the correct amount of water (1oz/lb/day) IF the water has no repulsive smell and is below room temperature. Owners have different requirements for their cats water supply. On-line product reviews have pointed out the more serious problems with available pet fountains such as; impossible to get clean or sanitary, flooding from leaking bowls, filters that are only passive and therefore NOT effective at removing chemical and toxins Pumps that fail because the pumps are not protected from debris added to or falling into the bowl. Experienced cat veterinarians agree that anything that can increase a cats water intake is highly desirable and may reduce or delay the very common (and expensive) conditions such as kidney disease, cystitis and urinary tract infections. This fountain is the culmination of three years of research and development which now provides a fountain that will not injure the cat in any manner or inconvenience or harm the owner. The bargin with a Glacier Point for Cats product is in the quality. The Quick Start and cleaning instructions is available on the internet.

3. Thank you for your help!
I wish I would have waited and looked online for a bowl. Petco has a small selection, I didn't know there were so many different types out there.

4. My guys will jump onto the bathtub rim and meow...
...which is the signal for me to turn on the cold water for a minute.
They then jump into the tub and drink some of the water before it goes down the drain.

 Hey, it makes them happy, and they're drinking, right?

Spoiled? MY cats? How dare you suggest such a thing?
