Difficult to say. He has not adapted to the new kitty gracefully. He is really just put off by her, and lethargic and unhappy.
I guess he feels like he is being replaced. But he is over 20, so ...
It was obvious he was onto his last legs before she showed up.

Actually, old cat likes to lay under that light ... because it warms him up. Sometimes he will put his head up near it, until his head is very hot, then he comes over to have me pet him.
I don't understand it. I think he is trying to french fry his brain or something.
But since he is old, maybe he is just cold all the time. I'm getting older and starting to notice that about me, too.

7. Winter is when my two hostile adult cats decided

to call a truce and sack out together when it was nap time. They continued to growl and give half hearted swipes when they'd pass each other during awake time, but I knew by their sleeping behavior that it was just posturing.

Old kitty has just discovered new kitty has her uses. You can still expect old kitty to try to teach her some manners.

And yes, old bones do take longer to warm up.

4. What a sweet photo. I'm trying to decide about bringing on a new cat.

It's been nearly a year since I lost my beloved cat, Stinker, and during that time the sole surviving cat, Rose, has been getting along just fine on her own. She's an aloof girl who only requires your presence to open a can now and then and that's about it. She's 9 years old and has been like this the 8+ years we've had her. I really miss having a lovable lap cat and someone to go out to the garden with me (Rose is an indoor cat). It probably would be best to get a young cat that wouldn't intimidate her in any way, but I'm worried she'd go totally psycho on it. I keep hoping a new cat will just "appear," like Stinker did, and take the decision part of this away. Plus, it always seems like the ones who find you turn out to be the best friends.

5. That's what happened here, so I didn't really have a choice. And

it has turned out to be wonderful for me. The little kitty has taken to me like crazy.
I was in the office and kept hearing this meowing. A tiny kitten. It took me 6 hours to find the kitten on a box, on a shelf, mostly hidden by the edge of the shelf.
I think it was 2 years for me since the prior died.
The old guy was caterwalling something fierce, as if to complain about being alone. So I thought ...
There are so many out there that need a home. Try the shelter. Or look around a bit. Maybe one will just jump on you and say ... "there you are, I knew you would rescue and save me".

6. It's possible

My old man (not that old- he's 12) has been trying to kill the old lady of the house (14 yo) for several years now. He's always been a bully. We have to keep them separated- she spends most of her time in our bedroom. Then we get a rescue kitten and BAM! he's like a new frickin' cat! He plays with the baby, grooms her, sleeps with her...I kinda like this new cat.

8. That's funny. Comical. My old one slipped for a moment and rested

his paw on her, but now he is back to hissing and growling. The little one torments him but she also just wants to be friendly, groom him, and sleep with him.
He hates it. But she chases his tail endlessly, jumps out at and on him, sticks her head onto his food plate, and into the water bowl when he tries to drink.
He hates it, but he has the torment coming, as he used to torment his female companion cat that passed away 2 years ago.
She spent much of her life sleeping behind the refrigerator to be immune to his biting.
But now he is old, and slow, and he doesn't move much. And the little one just follows him. So I think he will just grumpily fade away.
He was lonely, now he's grumpy.
