Ear licking?
Our tiny dog has taken to licking the insides of the ears of the two big dogs. The Border Collie aeems to actually enjoy it. The GSD, not so much.

Anyone heard of this?

1. My cats do it to each other and enjoy it. The dog would enjoy it, but the cats
won't lick her ears. :-(

3. Any dogs I've ever had have always done it
and we've never had any problems with infections. They've always seemed to enjoy it...it appears to be very relaxing for them. Now, I'm down to only one dog, but she likes to lick one of the cats. Kitty will shake off the dog spit, but ALWAYS goes right back for more! Go figure!!

5. Our male ACD does this to our female all the time
but she never reciprocates. The dogs we had before these two were Lab/Shepherd mixes and littermates. The female always licked the male's ears and never the other way around . They always seem to enjoy it. I give up trying to figure them out :-).

6. This seems to be affectionate behavior here...
...at least, between my two oldest cats, Riktor and Esme. They will snuggle together and take turns licking the other one's ears. :loveya:

When D'Artagnan initiates it with anybody, it is usually the prelude to a wrestling match.:yoiks:

7. It's grooming. The female cat licks the young ones all over to
groom or clean them.
Within the pack they groom each other, and the ears too.
