What Wimsey taught me last night...

It is a VERY BAD IDEA to allow Wimsey (aka "He Shoots Clouds Of Fur") to sit on the desk and mousepad while being brushed...
unless one ENJOYS tweezing and otherwise extracting fine, white, extremely clingy hairs from the keyboard, mouse, mousepad, and the monitor screen (the last repeatedly).

Before he changed his address and moved in with us, he lived with people who called him "Blizzard".
I thought it was just a variation on the usual "Snowball" for a white cat. :eyes:

Now, I'm wondering if maybe it wasn't just his color for which they were naming him...even though his Kitty SuperPower hadn't yet manifested. :yoiks:

1. Cats project fur like squids shoot ink.

And maybe for the same reason.

Every morning as I start to leave for work, one of my cats stations himself in front of the back door and rubs insistently against my legs, meowing at the top of his lungs. For a long time I assumed he did this because he was unhappy that I was leaving. I have concluded, however, that what he's really telling me is something like, "Wait, wait! You can't leave yet; there's not enough fur on your pants!"

2. Well, at least you learned. They tell us we should keep learning.

Learn to use tape wherever you can to pick up hair. And I got one of those static dusters too.

You will find soon enough the real reason for the name Blizzard. Let's hope this is not the reason.

3. Wimsey 'told' me his name...

True story:

I was re-reading Dorothy L. Sayers' Busman's Honeymoon (the one where Lord Peter Wimsey and Harriet Vane finally tie the knot). There's a part in there where the Wimsey coat of arms is being blazoned:
'Argent (white), three mice courant (running) and a Domestick Catt crouched as to spring'.
Just as I was reading this passage, the new kid (the only white cat in the otherwise all-ninja clowder) jumped into my lap and LOOKED at me.

I can take a hint...
"OK, is your name Peter?" No...'Peter' wasn't the name he was after.
"LORD Peter?" Nope, that wasn't it either.
"OK, how about just plain Wimsey?" BINGO. I got a purr, a cheek rub and he was responding to it within a day.

Wimsey turned four in early January (judging his age by his development when he came to live with us).
I've assigned him January 6th (Twelfthnight) as his 'official' birthday- makes it easier for me to remember.

I just have this 'thing' about not naming my furkids for their color or markings :shrug:...
They usually have their own idea about who they are and if I'm patient and observant they'll 'tell' me.
It seems to work...they come when they're called- most of the time.
They ARE cats, after all...:crazy:

Thanks for reminding me about the tape...:hi:...and what is a 'static duster'?
I was using one of those microfiber cloths and rubbing alcohol.

4. Another entertaining story,as always.

I wish it was that easy for me to name a cat. Although I guess I have been lucky since they do patronize me enough to respond to the name I choose for them. I also am unable to know the birthdays of any cats I have had. In fact, except for one who was about 6 months old based on his teeth, I have not known anything but that they were "adult" cats. So their birthdays were always just the day I found/adopted them. Your idea is easier. Hmmmm, maybe I should just use my birthday since I rarely forget that.

Regarding a static duster, I did a quick google search and this site has a lot of different kinds although I do not know this site at all. http://www.nextag.com/static-duster/compare-html
But you can find them just about anyplace. They are supposed to act like a magnet for dust. And they do pull dust and cat hair out of keyboards quickly. They are worth the cheap prices, and I would not buy one online with shipping costs. Go to any hardware store and look in cleaning supplies, or office supply stores, etc.
