I just asked my vet for some 4th of July meds for my dog.
I think everything was ok last year. Last night some neigborhood kids started popping stuff off around 9pm and they were at it randomly for a few hours. It was making my dog very nervous and he was pacing around the house. It bothers me too, but at least I know what it is.

I remember making the mistake of taking my first dog to a fireworks display, where she promptly bolted and ran 3 miles home when the first firecracker went off. She was a wreck on the 4th of July for the rest of her life and I had to medicate her.

This year some of us were actually going to watch the fireworks from the dog park- which I may still do, but without my dog. He'll be home sleeping peacefully on doggie xanax.

3. I remember, years ago in house in DC,
neighborhood dogs would sound their 'alarms' at the sounds of DC's great fireworks (as well as those of closer-by neighbors.)

4. My least favorite holiday! And all because of fireworks.
Although I enjoy a good professional display, I hate them, I like peace and quiet. I hate how they bother pets, and I cannot imagine how all the wild animals feel. I hope the meds help.

5. Thanks. At least I don't live close by.
We have one of the biggest displays in the state here in Madison. Some of the people I know who live near to the area where they shoot them off - which is close to the dog park - are taking their pets out of town because the show is so loud it disturbs their pets.

Other people use herbal remedies.

6. Sadly here, ever yokel in the neighborhood
spends hundreds (thousands) of dollars to shoot off all night long. It is illegal (technically), but you know how it is---only abide by the laws you agree with. Like I said, my least favorite holiday.

7. we have the same here
In fact it has been going on for the past week. I guess they get off on hearing the pops and the bangs and the cries of the animals! Makes me sick!

I wish they'd outlaw fireworks!

8. I recommend the Storm Jacket. It is about 50 bucks but works well for many things.
