Can anyone give me a suggestion?

I have adopted a shelter kitty. She is fantastic but we seem to have a food problem. I adopted her in February and have spent months trying to find food she will eat. The only one she will eat is 'Fancy Feast Elegant Medleys Shredded White Meat Chicken With Garden Greens'.

I have thrown out tons of canned food and given an equal amount to our local shelter.
I always bought two of everything. She turned here nose up at everything. I have been feeding her this particular Fancy Feast because she seems to love it.

Here's my problem. The stuff costs a fortune. 89 cents a can plus tax times twice a day/=about two dollars a day.
I am on Social Security--limited income. I need to find, hopefully, a source where I can but this cat food at a better price. Any ideas to help me out??

1. Have you tried letting her fast until she will eat

what is fed? It is probably cheaper to make your own shredded chicken.

at the shelter!

I'd try just feeding her dry kibble for a few days. After that any kind of canned cat food would be a treat. She won't starve.

Or you could try making your own like the above poster suggested. My cats consider it a real treat when I chop up cooked chicken for them.

I have to feed one of my cats expensive RX food. The other three end up eating it too. It costs $35.00 for an 8 lb. bag! With three cats, yikes! I know what you mean

I am buying the $35.00 bags of cat food, too. I am buying the expensive canned stuff, as well.

Fortunately, I am feeding only one cat.

We have had her a long time, and this is a fairly recent development. We love her, and want to take the best care we can.

She has gained weight and is eating better with this food. She is much healthier.

7. all three of my cats are doing just great

No vet bills, no nothing. I have one type of the dry food they eat shipped to the house (it cost about $100.00 for a 4 month supply of it which is not bad). However, the RX stuff is not cheap anywhere.

The local vet offers a 10% discount to senior citizens luckily. I send my husband to buy that for HIS cat who is supposedly in the early stages of renal failure (you'd never know it though as said cat is doing very well -- he is about 11 years old).

They are worth it. A hell of a lot cheaper than a child, that is for sure! :)

6. The others have good suggestions.

I would suggest to keep trying, including the "you ain't getting nothing else til you try this" route. Also, you can check online for special deals and coupons. You'd be surprised how many places now offer online coupons and you can print them out and go to places that double them! You can also mix a bit of her fave food with new, cheaper food, and slowly phase out the more expensive food. That worked for me with one of my birds.

8. You have an exellent suggestion

I think gradually adding the less expensive cat food to the Fancy Feast is a terrific idea. Doing it slowly will fake out the kitty. At least one would hope so.

I know when my cat was sick I could get her to eat by mixing a bit of canned tuna fish and the liquid with the regular food. It didn't take much for her to think she was getting something really special.
