elevated food stands for dogs

ok, I've searched the web, and the only type of stand I can afford at the moment are ugly plastic ones.

I have two other stands that were made by a guy at work, but he doesn't have time to make me a third one.

does anyone have a link to a site that sells plans on "how to make elevated food stands for dummies"? I'm no carpenter or furniture maker so the plans would have to be pretty simple - no fancy cuts, angles cuts etc...

1. I have one with a plastic stand and metal bowls.

I bought it from the Pet Super Mart in my neighborhood. Have you checked out PetsMart? They are not that expensive.

2. I used to put my dog dishes on old milk cartons.. the plastic boxes that

you see at the supermarkets.

3. I built one with scrap 3/4" plywood from a cabinet project

There was a "main" board that was the dimensions of
the plastic tray we put under the food bowls.
There were two "uprights" that were the length of
the short dimension of the main board.  The other, vertical
dimension of the uprights was about 4 inches.  
I set the uprights up on edge and nailed through the main
board down into the vertical edges.  I predrilled the holes
for the finishing nails since plywood is like a rock.

I suppose you could use 2x4s for uprights.

5. Buy a nice large nuprene (solid white plastic) cutting board -

you know the ones that are 1/2 inch thick or more.

Buy a couple of 2" or 3" dowells - or use a nice clean straight 2x2 or even 2x4 - or get some pre-finished and pre-made legs from Home Depot or Lowes.

Just paint the unfinished legs and drill a hole thru the top into the top of the leg, or use the mounting plate on the pre-finished ones.

It's a neat looking simple piece - sort of a "parsons" table look.

You can even attach the self-adhesive "bumpers" on the bottoms so it won't slide.

And then get a couple of small wire chrome towel bars to mount to the top to keep the doggie dish on top.

Easily cleanable and looks great.

6. Go to your nearest grocery/liquor store dumpster.

Find large cardboard box. Fold open flaps in so box is closed on the bottom, open on the top (the folded flaps/sides provide stability). Flip over. Place bowl on top. If it gets wet or food slobbered upon, replace. Cost? Free.

You can also use a tupperware storage thing. We stockpile dog toys in one that doubles as an elevated bowl holder. Easily cleaned, serves 2 purposes, out of the way.
