Screeching and biting! (bird)
I have a Quaker (monk parakeet). She is a juvenile, about a year old. However, she screeches all the time. Well, more accurately, when someone is not in the room with her and talking to her. She also now is biting, not hard, just annoyingly. Any hints to stop or at least CURB these behaviors? I figure some of it is because she is young, but I don't want her to grow up to be mean. She gets handled every day, and played with in an affectionate manner. Any ideas?

Here she is...Illapa (Incan god (we thought she was a male) of thunder)...

okay, I know nothing about birds but

"ill" - apa? don't parrorts learn english...

I don't really believe in astrology but I do believe Leos take their astrological profile and use it as a license to be bold, outspoken and domineering.

your bird may decide she can be "ill"-tempered.

just kidding.

have you tried calling a vet who handles exotic pets, and just asking?

2. "Biting" is Normal and So Is the "Screeching"
That "biting" is how the bird plays with you. And the "screeching" is how they communicate. Sounds like normal healthy bird behavior. Really no way to stop those behaviors, that's what birds do and it's perfectly normal.

She's adorable!
