Stash found - 3 5month old kittens caught red handed
Edited on Fri Jul-15-05 07:18 PM by superconnected
Today a pet owner noticed her 5 month old kittens stretching their paws under her livingroom sofa. She first thought they had lost the corn-cob they had brought home the night before(owner not found) but on closer examination it was discovered that the corn-cob had not been retrieved from the trash, but instead 21 toy mice resided under the sofa.

The guilty kittens quickly claimed the mice while the owner attempted to snap pictures of the gluttonous pile.

The mother cat was also caught taking away mice.

"I've wondered for months where all those mice went because I keep buying them more since they didn't seem to have any," said the cat owner. "It didn't dawn on me they were all in once spot."

Apparently the owner is still missing 2 white watches and tens of hair-pretties.

"I'm just glad it wasn't the corn-cob again", she was quoted as she attempted to retrieve the mice from the kittens.

Pictures follow

4. Yours end up in water?

Once I found a hair pretty in a bowl of milk I put down for the cats. I also found one in the litter box. I've never found the others. They've stolen 50-100.

The mice thing was a surprise for me because I really didn't know where they were putting them all. I'm new to having kittens.

5. Water bowl, eh?
When my late Balinese, Tari, was a kitten, she would steal my wife's earrings from her nightstand, carry them downstairs, and leave them in the water bowl.

One of her other favorite tricks was to take milk carton rings (the plastic ring that seals the cap on gallon jugs) and leave them in our shoes. It didn't take too many early-morning surprises before we started shaking out our shoes before putting them on...

9. milk jug rings
we had a cat years ago that loved those jug rings -- and they were usually found floating in the water bowl.

he would drop them into the bowl, bat them around, scoop it out and continue playing with them. Guess he didn't like playing with dirty "toys"

6. Mine bat them under the door of the utility close
(where my hot water heater and AC/Heater unit are). Since I only open that door once every couple of months to change filters and stuff, that's when I collect them all :).

7. Sparkly balls under the radiators.
Dozens of them. And toy mice in the water bowl, and milk bottle caps in my shoes. Cats are very meticulous about where they store their stuff.

10. My little mischief makers
Drop their "kill" in their food bowls once the the "life" has been satisfactorily drained from their poor toys.

As for kitty toy storage:

My kitties LOVE this. Though, YOU'LL be the one picking them up from under the couch and placing them back in the puzzle box.

11. Marinate those mousies!!!
Edited on Tue Jul-19-05 09:03 PM by WhoseMarie
That's what we do with all the cat toys - take a big ziplock bag, fill it about half-full with the best, organic cat nip you can find. Then add toys. Marinated Mousies are a particular favorite. We put all toys in the bag, let 'em marinate, take a few out to let them play with them, then the next morning, we gather them up, put 'em back in the bag, marinate them, then take a few at a time out, in a few days for them to play with.

We rotate the toys this way....and our two cats maintain a major 'watch' over that cabinet over the fridge, where the marinated mousies are.

12. Great idea!
We'll have to try that. (The main trick, of course, would be to find a place to put the bag where they couldn't reach it and throw a little party for themselves. ;-) )
