Having a bad day, older cat freaked on vet

Just as suspected, my new kittens must have brought home some kind of URI, because my older cat's eyes were gooing this green stuff last night. This morning his eyes were glued shut and he was miserable. So off to the vet. Mr. S. freaked on the vet, who had to use leather gloves to get big boy into his cat carrier to take him home. I have never seen this cat so vicious, it was truly frightening. Then he tried to bite my husband on the face this evening. Sebastian is on Baytril and some topical antibiotic for his eyes. But he's got to stay in the basement because he will infect the other cats. He's so miserable, and we are very concerned about him. Kitty diarrhea is sure to strike soon from the pills.

This afternoon my daughter and I were rear-ended. Needless to say, we've all had a bad day. Thanks for letting us vent. :cry:

2. All three of my fosters have had a URI this month

but the adults have already had it now, and so they haven't caught it (like chicken pox, it rarely strikes twice). Oregonjen is right; the antibiotics should work quickly. Just hang in there! :hug:

just a word of caution, make 100% certain, that ALL of the illness is gone before stopping the meds... and get more if the signs aren't completely gone... i treated jesse a month ago for a uri... he'd stopped pretty much sneezing, and just in the last week or so, it seems to have re-generated. ugh. so back to the vet i go as well.

anyway, i hope tomorrow is better for you, and keep us up to date on your poor guy...

give him some warm cat milk if you're able... that might help elevate his mood and make him feel a little better.

4. Seb. is feeling a bit better today, but it is a logistical

nightmare, because Mr. S. and Daemon share a box in the basement, which we have had to shut off from the other cats. Poor Daemon is like pickle in the middle. We're afraid to let him use the kittens box because they may not like the intrusion and go outside their box on the carpet upstairs.

Thanks for the reassuring words, I am lucky in that I have only had to give my cats antibiotics once in a blue moon.

that's too bad about the cat freaking out at the vet. I have been on the receiving end of unhappy cats too many times to count!! We don't use any gloves ever to handle them. We use a heavy terry towel folded over and kind of bind them up like a sausage from the sides to get them into carriers. Works MOST of the time, lol!

Be sure your cat with the URI is on l-lysine. We have begun treating ALL suspected feline herpesvirus infections with lysine because of its proven track record in controlling this common, nasty virus. I even take it myself to control my own herpes cold sores and it is a miracle. It is an amino acid, not a drug.

7. yeah I've taken lysine myself...

they gave me a topical antibiotic combo (mycins) Would a herpes eye infection give them green goo? And red rimmed eyelids?

Interesting, never thought about that. I am sure the kittens somehow transmitted it. Maybe I should put ALL of them on some lysine. Thanks!
