question about a cat that won't eat

Saturday afternoon. I got a cat to take care of for the next two weeks. Since then she barely ate. Yesterday I brought home some nibblings which she gulped down and five minutes later everything was on my carpet again. Later on I put her food in her bowl, she ate it. 20 minutes later everything was out again. She is hungry and is making that clear by yowling at me. She talks a lot. Also she seems ok otherwise. She is purring when I pet her, she is walking around, being nosy. Everything is normal except the eating. This morning when I got up I found her on the table (seems like she slept there). This was the first night she didn't sleep underneath the couch.
I just don't know right now what to do with to get her eating and keeping it down. She gets her normal food (her owners brought me the food). Any ideas?

1. Cats are creatures of habit and she may just be upset over the change...

...and needs time to adjust. Also, you said you brought home some "nibblings". Is that different food than what her owners gave you to feed her? If so, she may be used to one type of food, and introducing something else into her diet could have upset her system. You may want to send a PM to Lorien whom I've found to be a good resource on things like this. Hope she gets better.

that she needs to adjust to me and my apt.
I talked to the owner yesterday and told her I am getting some nibblings. She was ok with it. And the cat acted like she knows those little treats.
I will for sure watch her the next few days how she will behave. I hope she starts eating and keeping it down.

3. try some bach's rescue remedy, sounds like she

is just out of sorts. a couple drops may put her at ease and help her get into a routine while she is with you. good luck, poor kitty probably just misses her ownees. :)

4. Make sure she is only getting the same food that she gets at home.

One of my dogs used to quit eating for a day or two every time we went out of town. Once she settled into the routine with the pet sitter, she would start eating again. So maybe the kitty is just missing her routine.

Of course she is missing her routine. She lives in a 4-humans house hold where someone is home every afternoon. I am living by myself and only come home later afternoon. That is a big difference

Glad to hear she is doing better. Transitions are hard on cats - especially if they aren't used to their people being away from home. Just remember to promise her daily that her people will be coming home soon ---

9. she is palying dog

and gets more demanding every day. She talks a lot. Whenever I dare to go from one room to the other (I have only a two-room-apt), she is demanding why I am doing it ... LOL

she decided she wants to sleep on my table. I normally don't allow that. But I can't do anything against it. :shrug: I'll let her do it.
We were already joking around that the owners should be lucky I am going on vacation after they come back. "Cat? Which cat? You gave me a cat?"

...sometimes they are sooo cute, that we can't chastise them from doing the things we don't want them to do! My cats will be "acting up" sometimes and all I can think is, "they're sooo cute!!".
