Jessie the cowdog adapts to being Jessie the goatdog

Here's Jessie learning from a pro how to milk goats. Jessie doesn't really like the manual labor part of the job but she loves the cleaning up part. She gets to clean up any milk that gets spilled.

4. In Virginia, you can't sell goat milk
The dairy (cow) industry has the politicians in their pockets and it's actually against the law to sell goat milk. If you are caught they will close your farm.

While the babies are still nursing we milk the moms, pasteurize the milk, and then bottle feed them. The reason for doing it like this is due to the fact that there is a disease that can be transmitted from mother to baby through the milk. All of our goats are certified free of the disease, and we probably don't have to do this anymore, but we've been doing it like this for so long that it's old habit. Plus, it allows us to track the milk production of the goats. They get rated based on how much milk they produce, ie a four-star milker.

We drink whatever milk the babies don't use and you can make some really great cheesecake from the milk.

5. Against the law to sell goat milk?
That is nuts! What about the people who are allergic to cow milk? I thought many could tolerate goat milk.

8. I think you have to be a usda inspected dairy
Not sure, to be honest. We have sold goats to dairy's up north that make cheese and sell milk but they are not in Virginia.
