I think Huntington is dying

Huntington (my rattie) just turned two in May, and today his back legs are paralyzed. I think he's probably dying. :cry: :cry:

I'll post more when we get back from the vet.

3. Update: he's dead

The vet did some X-rays, and Ting had a tumor that had eaten away his spine until today it was so weak it cracked. There was no chance of recovery, and he would not have been able to empty his bladder or bowels. He would have died over a period of days from infection as things stopped working...so we decided it was best to help him go peacefully.

It was an easy death. Ting got a shot in a place past the broken part where he wouldn't feel it, and I cuddled with him. The last conscious thing he did was brux (what rats do when they're happy)--he was probably feeling quite high from the drugs as he slipped into unconsciousness.

He looks just like my beloved Elsa, a rat I had when I was growing up. I had so many pets back then; birds, two dogs, a chinchilla, rabbits, a cat,various small pets throughout my childhood. My collie and my rat were my two favorites. They are such amazing pets-people have no idea how smart and affectionate they can be! I'm so sorry for your loss. No doubt Ting was a wonderful friend. :hug: :loveya:

14. aww, poor thing

so sad when we lose one of our furkids. And my they do come in all shapes sizes, colors, etc. Doesn't make the loss any less painful. I had gerbils as a kid and was always distraught when when of them died.

I had to have my kitty put to sleep a couple weeks ago. I know how hard it is to lose a friend.
