HELP! Cat spraying

Our big boy - Gato - is spraying around the house.

I've tried Feli-away and similar products -- not working

any suggestions? If we can't get this under control, we may have to take some desperate measures.....

1. you do mean spraying and not peeing, right?

any changes-- new cats around? did you move into a new house where previous residents may have sprayed? an enzyme product like "nature's miracle" can neutralilze spray or pee. (other types of cleaners just mask or dilute odors.) I assume he's neutered?

2. Get him altered!

Neutering Gato will likely end the spraying.

But Ive seen my female cat spray on occasion when she's outside and comes across where our neighbor's (unneutered) cat has sprayed --its like they are prompted to instinctively leave their mark if they smell another cat's spray. Even spayed females! I didn't even know females could spray, but evidently they can.

So, if he's neutered and is spraying then I would guess there is a reason he is being triggered to do this.

7. My mom's male cat still sprays

and he's neutered and 5! The older cat is an alpha male, that's allwe can figure. She's tried everything...he's just a pisser.

4. Have you taken him to the vet to see if there's a physical reason

behind this? Sometimes a UTI can cause them to spray. It can also be caused by stress.

Get kitty to a GOOD vet that knows cats. have a urinalysis done to rule out a urinary tract infection. If no infection, my course of action (with my patients) is to put on Buspar (anti-anxiety meds). Be sure you have enough litter boxes and they are clean, no food/water anywhere near boxes, privacy for box use, and of course make sure kitty is NEUTERED, lol. These are usually very treatable, but the longer you wait, the less effective treatment is.
