We're taking donations for Katrina's animal victims at our adoptathon
We've decided that our focus this weekend will be to collect monies for the animals effected by the hurricane.

I don't know how much we will raise but every little bit helps.

I don't know how many times I saw photos and video of people wading through waist-deep water, yet in their arms they had a dog or cat. I feel for everyone there but I have a special place in my heart for the people that don't forget that their pets are members of their families too.

1. What a wonderful thing you are doing.

These people who have lost so much already don't need to loose their four footed and winged family members too.

Here are two links. One is for the Humane Society relief fund. The other is the list that Animal Planet has provided for donating to animal emergencies and rescue organizations.

Hope this helps.

For all the love and therapy and security all the beloved German Shepards and cats that I have had the privleged to have in my family, I am making a donation today.

2. That is excellent.
The Charlotte Animal Control will be holding pets for displaced citizens coming to our shelter for up to two weeks. Unfortunately, no animals allowed in the shelter.

It would be wonderful to work out a network of foster homes for displaced pets. So much to do.......

3. Our rescue's fund raising efforts for hurricane Katrina relief
are going well; we raised $1,300 this weekend for van rental and gasoline for the trip to the Gulf, plus hundreds of pounds of dog and cat food, collars and leashes, kitty litter, heartguard meds, bird seed etc.I also talked the pet supply store's employees and management into donating a truck, gasoline, and two drivers for our rescue effort. I suspect that your rescue will do as well-I hope so!

5. Update on our donation drive
We collected about $1300 in cash and between 25-30 crates to keep the misplaced animals in until they can be claimed or rehomed if no one comes for them.

We're also trying to adopt as many pets as possible because there is a strong possibility that many hurricane Katrina animals will be going to different rescues around the country for rehoming and we want to make sure we can take them in.
