More about the Southern Baptists and the manger scene.
Ordinarily this might be overlooked. However when you have a former major from the county sheriff's office and a county commissioner breaking the law, and a church deliberately breaking the law....it is hard to ignore.

This Major Pittman is a very fundamentalist Baptist, who held prayer meetings at the county sheriff's office and sometimes in the jail.
Randy Wilkinson is a commissioner whom many think acts inappropriately.

Richard is one of our DFA here, a retired lawyer from Miami. I posted earlier, but this ABC coverage is new tonight.

SNIP.."Like an episode out of "Seinfeld," fans of the defunct comedy series erected the second covert holiday display within a week at the Polk County administration building.

After a group of grandparents from First Baptist Church of Bartow put up an unsanctioned Nativity scene on public property, the Seinfeld fans placed a sign promoting a made-up holiday.

"Festivus for the Rest of Us" is the greeting on the sign placed next to the manger scene on the lawn of the Neil Combee County Administration Building."

2. I was gonna suggest the hugest, big ass menorrah you could do
Like ten feet tall and fifteen feet wide, with blue and white spotlights rotating over a disco ball with a fog machine.

Two can play at this game

3. But, the Jewish community said they would not do it.
This commissioner, Wilkinson, went to the temple and asked them to place something there.....the rabbi told him they did not wear their religion on their sleeve, so to speak. They refused to do so.

Wilkinson has some real problems. He wanted to defund the Polk Museum because part of a breast was shown in a display, and because of Fahrenheit 9/11 being shown.

He was finally kicked off the school board after erratic activities there.

I love the Festivus for the rest of us. Hubby and I cracked up. We are proud of Richard, and glad their phone is unlisted.

With my Southern Baptist background, I feel I can speak freely on this....these guys are nuts...they just did not know it was happening.

A church my dad helped start in the 60s, a large one, has split now into conservative/moderate. He is gone now, but he would have been very sad. He was a real Christian, not a fake one.
