It was just a year ago but it seems like a lifetime
One year ago tonight our campaign to take our country back took a sudden detour. Since then I've done a lot of things I'd never done before; I've learned a lot; I've made new friends; I've started to think in some new ways. But I'm still fighting the same fight we were a year ago because taking our country back isn't about electing a President, it's about all of us building a new community based on values of hope and tolerance.

So tonight a :toast: to Doctor Howard Dean for reminding us that we do have the power to take our country back.

And a :toast: to everyone else who went through this last year with me, both on this and other boards and in real life.

And a :toast: to that day not so far in the future when we all toast our victory.

If you care to relive a little of it:

1. Missed the date yesterday but it's not too late
to toast the good Dr. :toast:

I remember our rally in Austin very well. I have never felt that kind of energy from a political speaker. Our hope was high, our resolve strong, and our messenger was great.

I would also like to toast all grassroots activists still involved with DFA a year later still working to take back our country. Dean launched the drive but we took up the challenge and still march on. That was Dean's message "you have the power". We as individuals have the power. We don't need someone to act for us.

Someone pointed out here recently that there are more members now in DFA than when Dean was running for the presidency. That's fantastic news. That proves that the grassroots message is the one we need.

2. I'll never forget
the horror when I realized that I had a meeting where I was going to play the movie Bloody Sunday on the night of Iowa. I'll never forget how positive I felt when I watched people with Dean hats going into caucus on CSPAN. I'll never forget the horror when I realized what happened. I think it was the trench warfare with Gep that killed us. We should've let him do better in Iowa. Everyone expected it anyway. We would've killed in NH and gone from there. Ugh.
