Advice from one DNC (voting) member: Pressure Hillary
snip>
"I asked a DNC member I know personally, what he thought about Dean's chances. He said there is really one main impediment and gave a very simple, direct suggestion for activists. He said, 'you need to apply tremendous pressure to Hillary.' I asked, 'Are you saying she's in the way?' He replied: "Yes!" --- EmilyD, from DailyKos account of conversation at DNC Western Regional Caucus, 1/22/05

By now, many of you probably have read several eyewitness accounts of the DNC Caucus in Sacramento on Saturday. You may also know about the rumblings behind the scenes (and now in Newsweek) that Hillary Clinton MAY make a power play to derail Howard Dean.

1. OK I just got off the phone with her office
Edited on Mon Jan-24-05 03:04 PM by Tom Rinaldo
I was able to tell them that I live in Ulster County in Upstate New York and that she is therefor my Senator. I stressed that I am active in my local Democratic Party Club. I noted that I did not support Howard Dean as my first choice for Presidential candidate and stated my preference there instead. In so doing I mentioned that in the past there has been some rivalry between supporters of my candidate and those of Howard Dean, but nonetheless I strongly felt Howard Dean was the best man for the job. I said I trusted Dean's skills as a professional to unite our Party, not divide it. He has done that in the past with the Gov's Association. He has worked well in the past with our Party in the South. He appeals to disaffected Democrats also and can keep them in the fold. He has great fund raising skills and a high media profile which will help him get coverage for our Party in his role as a spokesperson for it. I asked her, through her office, to support Howard Dean. The person taking the call of course gave me no feedback beyond saying he would pass on my opinions to her.

Look, there has been a bit too much sniping lately going on between some supporters of Howard Dean and some supporters of Wesley Clark, but I made that call simply because it was the right call to make. I will try to encourage others to do the same.

4. Yes, Tom, thanks.
I've had it with Beltway-Insiderism. We need a dynamic grassroots leader who will take the party into unique territory, and differentiate us from the ho-hum, everything-is-the-same political pathway of both parties (hellbent for self-destruction).

Dean threatens the rightwing in a way no one else could. He's not fighting a losing battle with them over the same corporate money. He can get the resources elsewhere. So, I figure he threatens them greatly.

AND there is simply no excuse, and no equal, for this unjust, illegal, immoral and unnecessary Iraq War. Howard knew that, virtually from the beginning.
