I have a BAD feeling
Couldn't shake it. I'm taking a small break from pruning the grapes (ugh), and nearly all the while I was out there I couldn't get this DNC race out of my head -- running around, running around, running around in my head.

For some reason I found myself mad at Hillary. And mad at Frost. And I kept marveling that they all seemed to fold their tents at once -- except Rosenberg and Fowler.

Has there been some arm-twisting behind the scenes to get everyone else out of the picture so there can be a coalescence behind the anti-Dean? 10 days to go is a loonnnnnng time in politics, we all know. Plus we saw that kind of bizarre news story that the GOP planned to unleash garbage on Dean. IS it the GOP that plans to do that?

Something's going on, I really think there is. This kind of "can't get it out of my mind" along with being upset with someone for reasons I don't even HAVE (yet) is a little unusual for me, but it has happened in the past and ... well, let's watch things very carefully.

I hope to hell I'm wrong.

I opened LBN a few minutes ago and saw these three heads lined up in a row:
Steelworkers endorse Dean.
Machinists endorse Dean.
UAW endorses Dean.

It was HEAVEN, and made me pine for "the good ole days" when we were still in the primaries and Dean was definitely going to be our nominee. He was unstoppable then, too ....

1. DNC members are not "Swing" voters
They are the local Dem leaders and they are not as easily fooled as the general public can be.

Yes, there is a potential anti-Dean candidate, but this time Dean has sought the help of Jim Jordan, Kerry's former campaign manager, to help him win this battle. I don't know much about Jordan, but he seems to be an experienced hand at these kind of thing, unlike Trippi, who I respect for helping Dean build his political base from scratch but who couldn't help Dean make the transistion to winning Primaries.

2. Good point -- re swing voters and all
And I appreciate your trying to calm me down. Really.

Now: Jim Jordan? Was he the one who got fired? Hope someone can come along and fill us both in on him. ;-)

I don't know why I should be worrying about this. I'm one of those who was against Dean running for this in the first place. If he doesn't get it, he still has DFA, and he still has the option of running again himself in '08. Plus, as my friend hedda_foil pointed out to me one day: has he EVER let you down? has he EVER made a choice that was wrong?

No. At every turn, he has always exceeded my expectations. Always. Even when I haven't agreed with him, I could recognize and admire his honesty and integrity and almost always, his political savvy as well.

4. I know how you feel Eloriel, it's almost too good to be true. Again.
Except this time the area of operation and election is much smaller and more predictable.

Though I agree a few Dems under cover with Repubs might try anything yet to damage his chance. So I'm apprehensive but also hopeful.

The endorsements of unions that didn't back Dean for prez has cheered me up considerably.

Wasn't Jordan the guy fired by Kerry because he wanted to fight harder and dirtier against Dean? I always suspected that was a fake 'firing' and Jordan was actually outsourced to wage war against Dean at a more intensive level.

Jordan may be the reason Roemer and Frost were complaining about the kind of campaigns being run against them.

Oursourced indeed. I think you're right (if we've got the right name, that is).

Jordan may be the reason Roemer and Frost were complaining about the kind of campaigns being run against them.

Bwaahahahahaha. Turnabout's fair play???

Actually, I don't approve of dirty tricks in politics ANYwhere, least of all intraparty. I think it so demeans us. I want rules, guidelines and FAIR PLAY. I don't think it's too much to ask of my party, the party of the Good Guys.

Thanks, DFL!

3. DNC Hispanic Caucus Votes Overwhelmingly to Endorse Dean
snip>
The members of the Hispanic Caucus of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) voted overwhelmingly today to officially endorse Gov. Howard Dean for Chair of the national Democratic Party. The endorsement is the first from any DNC caucus to be granted and guarantees Gov. Dean at least 35 of the 45 votes in the caucus. Nine caucus members were unavailable to participate in the deliberations and voting, which took place via conference call today.
...
"Our decision today exemplifies the type of leadership we will exercise to help Chairman Dean reach out to the Hispanic community which will be the most critical voting bloc in every election in the foreseeable future," said Sen. Martinez.

DNC Hispanic Caucus Members Endorsing Gov. Howard Dean:

Steven K. Alari, Dr. Celita Arroyo de Roques, Cathy Bartolotti, Tonio Burgos, Luisette Cabanas, Linda Chavez-Thompson, Alvaro Cifuentes, Maria Echaveste, Edward Espinoza, Norma Fisher Flores, Nely Galan, Alexandra Gallardo Rooker, Maria Garcia, Carmen Gonzalez, Teresa Krusor, Dr. Miguel D. If they're going to take him down, I don't see how. But claiming the chair is only the beginning. Then his real fight begins and it will not go easy for him- power won't suddenly become less precious to DLC types. We KNOW how sharp dem elbows can be.

Did you know that the new LA State DNC chair's company gave 100K to the inauguration fund? His PAC gives 60% to repubs. I don't know why that's not a scandal. This is one weird party.

6. That is just beautiful.
Really, Makes me almost burst into tears -- partly because of the wonderful upswelling for Dean (The People SPEAK -- WE HAVE THE POWER!!) and party because it reminds me of the primaries and all that hope... boohoo, sniff, sniff (will I EVER get over that??).

Thanks for posting it, Rose. Ah, does my heart good.

Unbelievable re LA Party. Weird Party doesn't quite cover it, but it's a good start.

7. At our Meetup tonight
An actual live member of the DNC (who was not a Dean guy) told us that Howard Dean will be the next DNC Chair. He congratulated us on the work we had done and challenged us to keep up the struggle to reform the party.

8. My typically suspicious mind is at work.
I am like Eloriel, and I was just not sure about this to begin with. But since it seemed to be what he wanted, I have tried to be ok. Maybe it is all these endorsements in one day. Gives me some shivers....like deja vu all over again.

Oh, well, I will think positive.

10. "You HAVE The Power To Take Back This Party!" ~ Howard Dean
Edited on Fri Feb-11-05 12:19 AM by mzmolly
WE did it! :toast: :bounce:

First "The Party"

Next "The Country"

YEARGH! And, I'm not even tipsy!

Honestly, I had that same feeling Eloriel. It's hard not to after all that has happened since election theft 2000. But, this is proof were on our way OUT of this hideous mess, and it's because of Howard Dean and people just like us. :)

11. Well, I think they said tonight on C-Span he would be taking the reins....
in 48 hours. I was not listening but read it in a post.

What is on at 10 in the morning? Is it the winter convention? Was that just a Terry tribute tonight?
