"The Democratic Party honors women and their sacrifices on International Women's Day during March - Women's History Month. Democrats continue to fight for issues that affect women's lives, including strengthening Social Security, promoting equal rights, and ensuring a woman's access to health care.
"If it were not for Social Security, over half of America's senior women would live in poverty. Democrats will not allow George W. Bush and his Washington Republicans to cut the guaranteed benefits that so many women depend on. Instead we are working to strengthen Social Security for future generations.
"Over 20 million American women are without health insurance. Democrats will not only fight to make health care more affordable for all women, but also ensure that women are allowed to make their own decisions about their health care.
"And today, in 2005, women still earn 76 cents for every dollar that men earn. Democrats are committed to closing this gap and paying equal wages for equal work by raising the minimum wage and passing the FAIRNESS Act.
"Democrats will continue to fight for the rights of women today and every day."
