Pew Study on Dean for America Released
Today, the Pew Research Center released the report, "The Dean Activists: Their Profile and Prospects." This report takes an in-depth look at the "cyber-soldiers" who helped pioneer Howard Dean's presidential campaign, many of whom continue to lead Democracy for America—and the results are encouraging.
Dean activists are some of the most interested, most engaged, and most educated voters in America. For 42% of activists, and two-thirds of those are under the age of 30—the Dean campaign was their first foray in active presidential politics. More importantly, their experiences on the Dean campaign have encouraged them to stay politically active in future campaigns.
"Dean supporters constitute an engaged group of citizens who intend to remain active in the Democratic Party and exert significant influence over its future direction."
In addition to their dedication to changing America from the bottom-up, Dean supporters are also highly educated about the issues and are "heavy consumers of a wide array of sources—
the web, newspapers, radio, and TV." They are also some of the most internet-savvy.
"Among the most distinguishing characteristics of Dean activists is their intense interest in the news... In general, while the public uses a few mainstream news sources as often, Dean activists show a marked preference for obtaining more serious or "hard" news."
This resounding impact that we have had, and continue to have, on the political process will go down in history as ground-breaking. Now, we must keep up the good work diversifying and expanding our networks and continue the fight to take our country back!
