It's Not Maple Syrup Dean's Out Selling

His loudmouthed inside-the-beltway boors are still booing Democratic boss Howard Dean, despite the party's strong election showing, but they're eating him up like sweet Vermont maple syrup in Canada and overseas. Party bigs say the former Vermont guv is headed to Europe to cheer on liberal parties in England, Spain, and Portugal. His keynote address this month to Canada's beleaguered Liberal Party, fans say, was just a warm-up. Dean's message: Show folks like England's Laborites how to remake their top-down outfits into grassroots organizations just as he did at the Democratic National Committee. "A lot of these parties are where the Democrats were a few years ago," says an insider, "when there were people in the party who said, 'We have to be more like Republicans,'and others who said, 'We have to stand up for what we believe in.'"

And the video from his well-received speech in Montreal.

1. Dean was in Spain today. England later this week, I hear.
Naturally our US media isn't really going to cover this trip anymore than they covered the Montreal speech. But I did find this. And did a rough translation at Babelfish.

"The head of the Government, Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero, and the leader of
the Democratic Party of the United States, Howard Dean, met today in the
Palace of Moncloa for, among other subjects, to analyze the collaboration
between the PSOE and the democrats. In the meeting, according to socialist
sources, a review became of the situation that live some international
conflicts, like the one of Iraq or the Palestinian-Israeli, and the
collaboration between the PSOE and the Democratic Party was analyzed."

4. Video of Howard Dean and Jose Zapatero in Madrid...in Spanish.
I hope they are saying nice things because I sure don't understand what is being said.

5. Damn - that is fascinating! I had no idea about his international travels & contacts.
And it sure seems like he is meeting with all the good folks. You are right, we have NO stateside media covering this stuff - for shame.

So interesting and I love that he is developing these relationships around the globe. Maybe he can salvage our nation's reputation yet (as in, we aren't all lunatic, jack-booted Nazis).

6. Since that Sunday on Fox Sunday right after the election...
his name has not been mentioned except by Carville on TV. It is like there has been NO coverage.

It probably suits him, but I like to see him on TV now and then.
