After reading this thread I am compelled to lay it out for all to see.
I was sickened by the tactics of the Dems to make sure Dean wasn't the nominee. Some sold out like two-bit whores to make it happen. Gephardt threw his votes to Kerry in Iowa and Kucinich to Edwards. I have met with Iowans in person who have verified this for me. I'd like to give a special nod to the Kucinich purists for supporting a whore in nun's clothing here.
Ok, so after we take it in the ass, no kisses, no lubricant, I take a buck-up-Johnny approach. I'm up to my neck in local politics and, for the sake of my local party, bit my tongue till it bled. I personally orchestrated massive swag purchasing and distribution. I worked easily 40 hours a week for the cause. My local party chair proved about worthless throughout the campaign season, more a nuisance than a help when she was around at all. I put up with crap from her and others for my efforts.
My family and home went neglected for months. I managed to raise three times last year's revenues. One other person in my party put in as much effort and time, everyone else thought to show up and vote was all they needed to do. We recruited over 800 volunteers and endured a dumb-ass from unCoordinated Campaign in our office for months.
Elizabeth Edwards came to town and I will admit she's is a delightful lady. However, they insisted on a forum regarding healthcare. Yeah, real exciting stuff. They wanted a low-key event, maybe 40 people or so. We could've drawn thousands. As soon as word of mouth went into effect my partner in this effort and I were beseiged with calls. How do you pick forty out of many hundreds begging to come? I won't belabor what all this took to put together, suffice to say that this little event consumed about 14 hours a day for four days. Needless to say many I have never met have nothing nice to say to or about me because they weren't invited. Lastly on this matter, we put together a perfect event that the advance team was so impressed with they tried to copy it around the country. That's all I got out of it, imitation as a compliment. Gee thanks.
Yeah, I worked my guts out for a candidate I had no enthusiasm for. I could only take small satisfaction in the fact that many hundreds of people came through our HQ looking for lawn signs etc. A huge percentage of them said the same thing: "I am an independent, I usually for Republican but I hate Bush." Not once did I hear "I just love John Kerry." Not one time.
So, I do all this and pay a very heavy price here at home only to watch our great would-be leader slink off into the sunset without even pretending to put up a fight.
And now, here at DU, if I dare to say anything about what a lame ass ticket we had, well you all know the outrage we see when that happens.
To add insult to injury we have a bunch of Rethug operatives posing as Dems, proclaiming we need to capitulate more in order to win. If that isn't a special kind of stupid I don't know what the hell is.
Sickened to the core--
Julie
