SNIP.."The former Vermont governor said rich districts should share the wealth — like Robin Hood, the rich pay for the poor — and property-tax payers should bear the burden of making sure New York City children get an adequate education.

"It's a huge problem. This is not going to be easy," Dean, a Democrat, told more than 100 educators, politicians and fiscal managers last night at the opening banquet of the Citizens Budget Commission two-day conference at the IBM Center.

"There's no magic bullet," he said. "You will have a nasty, horrible, bloody fight."

Dean said it would take a collective approach.

"I think you have to decide whether you are all in this together or if somebody else's child deserves an education. We live in a Robin Hood world," Dean said. "I don't find what you call Robin Hood objectionable. The question is, 'how much Robin Hood?"

Unfortuantely the country is now set up so that blue states carry the red ones financially. Of course it's the red states (mostly) that enjoy lots of jobs like the government subsidized military companies while the blue states get to watch their jobs get outsourced.

It's a pretty twisted situation IMO.

I would help you out, but I am just posting in here for now. I am noticing on every forum that the attacks are on...even the blog. Really getting bad.

I am just glad that he is still saying what he believes even if it is not popular. I agree that to have public schools, there has to be some Robin Hood aspect.

Like he says...the question is how much. Very practical thinking. Not popular, practical.

4. Dean is pragmatic, a problem solver, not an ideologue.

Aspen, here in Colorado, has many low wage immigrant workers. Now the county Aspen is in is quite wealthy. But the workers mainly live over the hill in counties that are struggling financially. They, however are the ones who have to meet the welfare and educational needs of poorly paid, no health care workers whose children are primarily Spanish speaking.

Indeed, it is a Robin Hood world.
