Thursday's Full Moon celebration of the guru
So this year we have two Full Moons in Capricorn. It must be a sign of the times that we need to be reminded once again of personal sacrifice and responsibility. This is the Full Moon of accepting one's personal responsibility to heal the suffering of others. Did you know that most of the great spiritual teachers were born under the sign of Capricorn? Why? To change human consciousness requires a Herculean commitment to achievement no matter how hard or how long the road. This is Capricorn at its best.

This is the traditional Full Moon celebration of the guru: Guru Purnima. So this is the night to celebrate all the teachers in your life, especially those difficult Saturnian ones. Why this Full Moon to celebrate the teacher? The planet Saturn, the cosmic teacher, rules Capricorn. Lessons and learning come in many ways, sometimes with great pain and effort, but always with the end result of freeing us from old and often useless patterns of behavior. Teachers show up in many forms in our lives; lovers, spouses, parents, children, friends, co-workers, bosses, work. Recognize them all tonight and thank them, even when the lessons they teach are painful.

.....

The Full Moon in Capricorn is the one night of the year when we can truly see our fear for what it is: a distinct inability to transcend the human-made irrational divisions of race, religion, nationality, and gender. There is no separateness, only love. All matter is made of love and therefore can only be love at its most basic, as well its highest expression. We need to create societal and governmental structures that solve these problems from a core belief in love and connectedness.

"We need to create societal and governmental structures that solve these problems from a core belief in love and connectedness."

...wouldn't that be wonderful??

I need to check the degree of the full moon...I think its very close to my natal moon....hmmm....

2. Thanks, Desertrose
I've been paying extra attention to the stars and the moon these days. Things seem to have settled down for me after a difficult two years (Saturn had a lot to teach me. Ack!) and I'm glad because now I can look outward and become active in causes that help others. That's another reason why I found this article so compelling.

The same astrologer had some disturbing things to say, however, about Saturn moving into Leo and perhaps exacerbating the ego-driven selfishness of Bush and this administration. Although, if Saturn is the stern teacher, then I can only imagine he will be thwarted or at least exposed for his destructive my-way-or-the-highway attitude.

I'm on the threshold of the crone phase of my existence and I'm travelling lighter these days. Several toxic relationships have been severed and the relief is immensely healing. Hopefully my attention and energy can now be applied to the task of "creating societal and governmental structures that solve problems from a core belief in love and connectedness."

your natal moon? do you mean birthday moon? thx.

3. I have FOUR planets in Leo
and I'm a-shakin' in my boots. :scared:

The last go-'round wasn't all that pleasant. But I do have to remind myself I lived through it. This time it feels like I have more to lose, or less ability than when I was 28 to cope. I will have to work on those limiting thoughts, those fears.

6. Saturn taught me a lesson I didn't learn last time
So, I believe he was rather harsh with me this time around because the last time he toured this area I did the equivalent of sticking my fingers in my ears and saying "lalalalalala, I can't hear you."

I felt so responsible for everybody else's happiness that I neglected some important responsibilities in my life and as a consequence, I didn't address these issues until it was almost too late.

From what I've read, if the last Saturn return was bad, but you rectified the problem, then this one likely will not be. :)

7. Good time for a question.
When they say Saturn in Cancer or Saturn in Leo - are we looking at individual charts where Saturn falls? Or is it that Saturn affected every "Cancer" sign over the last two years and will now be affecting every "Leo" sign now? How exactly does this work? Thanks!

8. I'm definitely astrology impaired so I'm probably not the person to ask
Edited on Wed Jul-20-05 06:22 PM by Mandate My Ass
I'm a Capricorn so Saturn in Cancer meant Saturn was in my opposing sign, which is a tough aspect. Particularly, Saturn was in the area of my chart that rules relationships, so that is whre my previously unlearned lessons would hit me the hardest. And they did.

A Saturn return, IIRC, is when Saturn returns to the area of your chart where it was at the time of your birth. So when you are 28 years old, the length of time for Saturn to make the circuit through each of the signs, and every 28 years thereafter, he returns to teach you the lessons you need to learn.

Also, if you were one of the four cardinal signs: Capricorn, Aries, Cancer or Libra, this past two years was probably more problematic for you than the other signs. Please astrologers, correct me if I'm wrong here.

10. I don't see anything to correct in anything you've written.
But then, I'm just a student of astrology. The reason for the cardinal signs being more problematic is the 90-degree aspect between them and your natal placement of Saturn in Cancer. However, I also think that using an aspect of 30-degrees to mark entire problematic areas of activity is much too wide. As a generalization to help in understanding the underlying structure, there's nothing wrong with that, but specifics to each natal can be tuned in much closer than 30 degrees of Saturn travel or two years of time. Orbs of aspects is a consideration, and conjunctions would have the widest value, whereas oppositions might be reduced, and squares, reduced from that, according to some theories such as those of harmonics. Most modern theories I've been exposed to agree that with aspects of less than 90 degrees, orbs of aspects should be reduced from that of a conjunction. It can be, and is, argued.

12. I'm a Cancer,
so that means these last two years Saturn has been influencing me (but only because I'm a Cancer) - right?

My rising sign is Leo, so does that mean Saturn's not quite finished with me yet?

And I looked at my chart ... my Saturn is actually in Sagittarius, in my 5th house (IIRC - dang short term memory!). Does that have any influence?

I really wish I understood Astrology a whole lot better than I do.

On the original topic, I love Lisa Dale Miller's perspective. I hope we've learned.

14. A few answers for you
Edited on Wed Jul-20-05 10:27 PM by Eloriel
First, your previous question:

When they say Saturn in Cancer or Saturn in Leo - are we looking at individual charts where Saturn falls? Or is it that Saturn affected every "Cancer" sign over the last two years and will now be affecting every "Leo" sign now? How exactly does this work? Thanks!

Your natal horoscope is a snapshot of the position of the transiting planets at the locality and moment you were born. Your natal horoscope -- which includes a position for Saturn and every other planet and point -- is forever "fixed" with those features for you and your life. I like to think of it is the "filter" thru which you see and experience life. Some people think of it as your personal mandala.

After you were born, the planets continued to move through the sky from the vantage point of Earth, and as they do so they come into various types of contact with YOUR chart -- and every other natal chart of everything and everyone on the planet. Saturn, as an example, doesn't interact with your chart every day or even every week or month. But when it does, something will be apparent from the interaction, and that "something" will depend on the nature of Saturn (building, structuring, limiting, ending, etc.), the nature of the type of contact (square = difficult, trine = easy, for example), and what house the natal planet contacted is in, what house it rules and its interactions with the other planets in your natal chart.

So, when someone says "Saturn is in Cancer," which has been true for roughly the last 2 years, it's not about YOUR chart, but a discussion of where transiting Saturn is currently. Everyone born the last 2 years will have had Saturn in Cancer. In another 28 years or so, we'll have another crop of Saturn in Cancer babies. (Each planet takes a different length of time to go completely through the zodiac. Saturn takes about 28 years.)

If you have ANY planets in Cancer, you will have had some experience with Saturn during the last two years, and there's a very good chance it wasn't all that positive since Saturn hitting a planet directly (that is, by conjunction for other planets in Cancer) is often experienced negatively. But not always.

With your Leo Ascendant, Saturn will be crossing that point sometime during the next 2 years (it depends on the degree of your Asc.). And if your NATAL Saturn is in Sag, sometime during this next 2 years you'll have a pleasant contact -- a trine (120 degrees) -- between transiting Saturn and your natal Saturn, which is a wonderful time to be able to build foundations, take on more responsibility easily and effortlessly, etc., etc. It's not impossible for the two to happen at the same time -- again, depending on how your natal chart is set up. If you have a natal trine between Saturn and your Asc, then Saturn crossing the Asc will be mostly positive OR if not entirely positive, will at least be moderated rather nicely by that trine.

Does that help? Make sense?

This explains why these last two years have been a challenge: Sun and Mercury both in Cancer.

Thank you.

16. I have Pluto conjunct Moon in Leo.
Opposite Venus (Aquarius) conjunct Mars (Pisces).

The excrutiating part of my life, I think, is over. (Maybe I should never say such a thing, because we always have something to lose, don't we?)

One day in a bookstore I looked down and saw Liz Greene's "Astrology of Fate", and felt like, hmm, I should buy that. And I did. And that started my interest in astrology. Which went for many years, until about 12 years ago, wheN I began to work 2 jobs, as I had a baby....

And I was married. To an artist. Many of his planets are in nice aspect to my Jupiter, so I guess that's why I put up with the two jobs while he had none....

Still married, although know I should not be. But that's neither here nor there. Now I'm ill and he still isn't working, and we have a beautiful girl, 11 years old, with, guess what, moon in Leo, and the same ascendant I have. But her Pluto isn't conjunct her moon, it's conjunct her Mercury. In Scorpio.

Family business.

5. I just went through Saturn in Cancer, with it
hitting three planets, and I was as scared as you all - at first. But then, I figured that it meant it was time to put my head down, nose to the grindstone, and tackle all the tough stuff I'd avoided. Not much fun, but a LOT of hard work! All in all, I feel like I came out AHEAD of where I was when Saturn entered Cancer. Seriously, looking back on it, I am proud of all that I accomplished, and there's hardly a spot in my house that didn't benefit!

Just remember - when you hit a roadblock, figure out WHY it's there, don't just keep trying to plow it out of your way. Been there, tried that, and it does NOT work! Saturn won't let you move ahead that way. Anyway, that's what I learned. Still glad it's no longer in Cancer, tho.

9. LOL! Leave it to you! If anyone could make lemonade out of
Saturn, you'd be the one, NB! :applause:

They say that, when Saturn hits you hard, if you do what you're "supposed" to do with it, the next time around, it will be kinder to you.

O8) I hope that's true for you, 'cause it seems like you tackled the challenges well this time. Good going!

I have a friend who shares shrub's b'day....the same day, same year....and she's had one helluva time with it. But she seems to have done what needed doing, like you did, when it was crossing her Sun and Saturn in Cancer. Now, she has to deal with it hitting her progressed Saturn, and that Pluto/Mercury/Venus conjunction... same as shrub. He has all this happening in his first house (ascendant). My friend has all this going on in her 4th house.

Needless to say, I've had more than one phone call asking for a reading through all this! :( It's been hard for her, and she's an enlightened soul, who does the right thing! It makes me wonder just how bad this must all be for *bush; I'm thinking he's prolly dealing with his by drinking and drugs, and trying to lie and excuse his way out of it. Saturn, of course, will win in the end.

13. Hey - that's the name of our berm - Lemonade!
A story that probably started during the last Saturn opposition to my natal Sun. We took the rubble of disaster, turned it into a berm, planted it, and called it Lemonade - I love it!
The first time Saturn crossed my Sun, I divorced my abusive husband, and spent the next two years in therapy. My therapist told me that I needed to "build a self" and be true to it for the rest of my life. I went from being what one friend called "the shyest bump on a pickle you could ever see" to ...well, the loudmouth I am today.
To me, Saturn is just what Shrub calls "H-hard werk!", and because he's alway had everything handed to him - he hates it, is terrible at it, and so he's having it rougher than some. Good for him!
Sorry to hear about your friend - perhaps that is because hers is happening in an angular house, too? I would think that would intensify it, especially with that being Cancer's natural house? Saturn can be difficult, there's no doubt about it, and there's no getting around Saturn either. I actually think it could be worse for an enlightened soul, who no doubt sees the danger we, as a people are facing, and unlike Shrub - CARES! I wish her success in her journey.
:grouphug:
Plus, there's the tendency to feel the burdens of the world too when Saturn dances on your stars, and depression must be guarded against by seeking out opportunities for laughter, the only "kick-start" I've ever found for defeating depression. At least, that helps me. Some times, Saturn just seemed for me anyway, a signal to ignore the "big picture" stuff (Bush, the world, etc.) and pay attention to the details - my own life.
Now, Pluto....Pluto scorches your whole world! Pluto's the one that scares me!
:hi: :hi: :hi:

17. I know very little about astrology, but
I've been thinking about this part:

Use this night to look at your own failings and see in yourself that which you hate so much in others. Stop the projection of your own Saturnian inner darkness out onto those closest to you. This is the night to reach deep into your well of strength and decide that achieving inner peace is the only goal worth attaining at this moment in our human evolution. This Full Moon simultaneously uncovers our fear and reflects the solution to our fear: acting only from love and compassion, and doing the hard work of relieving the suffering of all sentient beings by achieving enlightenment and inner peace.

A good reminder to stay focused on the higher good for all; it's so easy to be distracted by symptoms rather than focused on solving or healing the actual ill. When I get frustrated with the rest of the world, I need to remember that enlightenment and inner peace have to start with me.

I don't know enough about astrology to understand my chart; I have 2 planets in Capricorn, Jupiter and Saturn.

If tonight is the night to celebrate all the teachers in my life, it's also a night to reflect on what I have taught others, and hope the good outweighs the bad. I had this conversation with my youngest son just this afternoon. I felt blessed that we were able to share this topic with love and respect.
