Want a quick way to loose weight?
I've lost 14 lbs. in two weeks. I'd love to say I'm thrilled about this...I need to lose much more, but I'm not sure if this is the result of not being able to taste my food or something else!!! My appetite is non existent, and whatever I put in my mouth tastes like "crap" !! Sweets and salty, my two favorite flavors, are extremely yucky tasting to me. Maybe this loss of taste thing is God's way of getting the weight off of my body???? Went to new "Chiro" this afternoon, and he went over my history and looked at my xrays. He did the muscle relaxing (heat vibrator machine thingy, then only did mild hip adjustments and nerve testing. Cost me $76.00 up front to be reimbursed by medicare (I hope!!)
He said he'd like to see me next week, and I told him if I win the lottery I'll make an appt. When I told him I could only afford a visit once a month, he said "it's gonna take a long tome to get you better that way". What more could I say??? He also does massage therapy, and laser acupuncture.....also uses Reiki. He's been informed of all of my taste problems and what led up to them. He's going to study my records and get results of my most recent lab work from the local lab I use. So keep your fingers crossed for me. I'm praying he can help me!! Don't worry, I'm not starving myself. I have cereal or eggs in the AM, wheat crackers and tuna or cheese for lunch, and lot's of soups like Lentil, Chix noodle and minestrone. Drinking V8 juice and apple juice and lots of water. Christmas cookies and candy are still in the freezer....just waiting!!!! LUV YA ALL! JA

1. Wow - I hope you get better soon. It's nice to loose weight but
not in that way because it can be worrisome.

Well, at least with all of the testing I've gone through, I KNOW that I do not have any thing wrong with my brain (CT scan normal) I KNOW that I don't have esophageal cancer because they made me swallow a tiny camera !! My cousin, one year younger than I had it and it killed her. I have an appointment with an OBGYN next week for an internal exam (first one since I've moved up here 6 years ago) This, I trust will also ease my mind. I've had my regular mammograms, so that's all good. Last year I was sent to an oncologist to test for kidney and or bladder cancer and the tests were all negative. What else is going on....I don't know. I keep getting a hit on "stomatitis" ??? but the only discomfort I have is GIRD, for which I'm taking Nexium, and lately nausea...like morning sickness which passes as the day wears on...and NO I'm not PREGNANT !!!

9. You and me both!!
From the outward signs, and vibes I get from him, and the atmosphere in his office, I sense that he is very spiritual. The fact that he is open to different healing techniques gives me hope. The problem for me is that each technique comes with an additional cost above and beyond the regular chiro manipulations. He has agreed with me, and my former chiro, to stay away from neck adjustments. This caused a sigh of relief!!! I will remain HOPEFUL!!!

3. Wow, that's a classic example of finding the silver lining!
But I agree with Lindsey--losing weight shouldn't be caused by being unABLE to eat; it should be caused by being unWILLING to overeat (among other things). :)

JA, did the chiro (or anybody at this point) actually diagnose what's wrong, tell you what's causing your loss of taste?

6. NO !!
Actually, the Tech. that did the lip biopsy came the closest. He said it showed that my saliva glands were inflamed....however they didn't get enough tissue to figure out the cause. I will be going back for another biopsy soon.....as soon as the one they already did is healed enough that I can chew on that side!! They are going to use a different technique next time.

4. I hope you're keeping on w/ B12 supplementation
I lost a considerable amount of weight before my deficiency was addressed. When I am proactive and supplementing like I am supposed to, I have a stronger appetite.

I hope you're feeling well soon for a healthy 2010!

7. Thanks!
I'm taking 1,000 mcg daily. Haven't had bloodwork done yet to see if my numbers have gone up from the low "35" that they were. I'm also taking zinc and Caltrate+D twice a day.

8. MY PCP thinks it was triggered by the
bout with oral thrush. His "knee jerk" reaction was to blame the Advair inhaler I had been using, and have been off of for over 6 months now. My new Chiro's wife (his receptionist) and I were talking while I was waiting to see him, and she said her Mom lost her sense of smell for over a year due to some anti biotics she had taken, so who knows for sure at this point??? I do know that oral thrush is a sign of a lowered immunity, and screwed up endocrines.

12. I've been meaning to post a response to this, but kept forgetting!
Would you please do me a favor, and ask her if her taste came back spontaneously, or did her Dr.'s find something to help her. I woke up during the night last night choking, because my mouth was so dry! I'll be so glad when the weather warms up a little so my furnace doesn't run all night!!(hot air) After I got a drink of water I started sneezing and getting a runny nose. First time since the dry mouth started, and was very hopeful that this was the beginning of the end of my plight. I'd really like to know what she says about her experience with this....please? Thanks a million. JA

Checked. It's been awhile since I spoke with her.

It came back very slowly and very gradually. She almost didn't realize it was happening because it was so slow. I hate to tell you this but it took....years.

18. Hey Cher....
I just now found your response!! Thank you, even though it's not what I REALLY wanted to hear, it does give me HOPE! This is more than anyone else has been willing to give me...Dr.'s are so damn noncommittal about everything, and afraid of their own shadows these days. I'm sure it's because of malpractice lawsuits. Ya know, sometimes hope is all we have to hold on to, but I guess they just don't get it!??? I appreciate your honesty so very much!! Thank you :pals:

13. I'm just going to throw out the intuitive vibe I got on this, JA.
I could be way off, but I get the impression this is some sort of metal poisoning. Just a flash of insight I received while reading your post.

I know you've gone thru a lot of health problems lately, I wish you a cure soon!!!!

14. Could be.
I'm hoping the next lip biopsy will be more conclusive! Remember the initial post I wrote re the possible "tainted cereal" I got from the food pantry? So far, NO ONE has taken it seriously enough to have it tested! (but I still have the box in my pantry) Just for the hell of it, I think I will take a sample of it to the technician who does the biopsy next time. I'll ask him if he'd like to taste it????? Maybe that will either get someone to take me seriously, or put me in the "loony bin", huh?

15. I would certainly hang on to that box.
Not a bad idea. Perhaps one of the many health care "professionals" your seeing now will take this seriously.

Isn't that when your problems began....w/the cereal?

19. I thought it could be arsenic
I remember when this first occurred. Please get it checked - if this is completely wrong at least you've ruled out one possible cause.
