Story on George Noory/Interest in the paranormal
http://www.theatlantic.com/doc/201001/coast-to-coast

Noory's interest began early, but then his family, like that of Dan Akroyd, was interested in the paranormal.

I'm posting this because I'm interested in the origins of people's interest in the paranormal. I hope you'll tell when your interest started.

Mine began very early, as young as eight or so. My little friends and I would play with the Ouija board. Even before that, we detected possible otherworldly presences from when the room would suddenly turn cold.

As you can read from the article, Noory's interest began around the age of 11.

1. My interest goes back to around 7 or 8, too.
I think the movies on "THE BIG SHOW" are what sparked my curiosity. Those old monster movies that were super hokey. Guess everything has some type of "value". LOL

During meditation since, I've discovered that an incident when I was 3 is what REALLY started it. :)

2. Very early, listening to my Grandmother
When I was a young girl I used to love to listen to my Grandmother and her sisters tell of their, quite accepted, paranormal experiences, and those of other relatives. It was quite acceptable for southern, country ladies like them to see the paranormal as a part of the world back then. They would tell the stories with wonderful humor and mystery, and I had no doubt many had been personal experiences. My Grandfather swore there was "no such thing" but would then go on to tell of hearing the voice of a friend recently killed in a coal mining accident call to him when he was deep in the mine where they worked. But my Grandfather didn't express the slightest disbelief in the psychic abilities of his own mother though, and neither did anyone else. She was half Cherokee and evidently had and amazing ability to know what was coming. I loved hearing about her and her accurate predictions and always wished I could have known her. Because they could talk about these things and take each other seriously I always felt like I was in a different society when they were telling their tales, and I loved it.

My Dad was always interested in UFOs and we watched every UFO show there was to watch when I was growing up. We still have conversations about it now. He always assumed that we weren't alone and it rubbed off on me. My Mom likes ghosts and crop circles and confided to me that she believes she inherited a bit of intuitive ability from her grandmother. My sister and I have both been very interested in reincarnation for some time and she had a very enlightening regression a couple of years ago.

Come to think about it, this interest of mine could be genetic. :7
