Wow, it's really nasty out there
..in the rest of the forums, I mean.

I really hate to say that, because I feel if one is a member of this website; then one should participate as much as one can in the other parts of the website. As much as we love this little corner; the owners did not create DU specifically just for us to have this one forum..(although that actually might have been the reason, LOL!! :) )

..but WOW, it's toxic. I can't even go into the lounge anymore without getting into some snark with posters I respect.

I'm feeling Spirit actively saying not to give any of it any attention. I feel it's imperative to avoid this kind of negative input at the moment; for me at least. It seems the earthquake has released energy onto the surface of the earth that is sure moving things around!

Anyway, just felt I should 'verbalize' that. Dunno if it's just me, however.

1. It's not just you, lildreamer
I feel it too. The nastiness is palpable. I thought once Mercury went direct it wouldn't be so horrible, but I honestly can't tell a difference. I haven't left the house all day, and this is my first foray into on-line land today. Just been hanging out all day with the cats, trying to keep from dealing with anyone for fear of that nastiness glomming onto me.

3. Most people get pretty grumpy
when they start to wake up.
A LOT of waking up going on these days. And the first thing they see is bright light shining on the cockroaches.
Pretty soon they are going to be downright angry.

4. Excellent point
We knew there was going to be resistance. We were warned, but to actually see it right in front of us...wow, you know?

6. I read something yesterday
that totally pushed my buttons. I was furious over the stupidity of the post :banghead: so I immediately typed up a reply pointing to clear evidence why it was wrong and suggestions to the author as to certain things they might to do themself that would make the world a better place. I read it over several times, adding this and that. And then when I was satisfied with it, I threw it away. Which was my intention all along.

It does no good to engage with those folks. There are none so blind and all that. Writing it out sure made me feel better though.

7. How funny, Non Sequitur today
Seeker, "I've traveled halfway around the world to learn the secret of true contentment."

Guru, "Ah, that's easy...Live each day with this in mind...arguing with idiots makes you an idiot."

There's more. http://www.gocomics.com/nonsequitur/

8. Someone told me long ago
Edited on Sun Jan-17-10 09:40 AM by Callie McAllie
You cannot reason with the irrational.

Words to live by.

Also loved Conscious Evolution's notion of the bright light shining on the cockroaches.

But do we step on them? Trap them? Let them run and hide back in the dark?

How to deal...

9. I stick to a few groups lately
I keep sticking with the groups lately, this one and two others primarily. I am becoming more and more "allergic" to negativity. There is no way to respectfully discuss anything in GD or GDP, people just want to put others down. I left junior high a long time ago and don't want to live it in a 45 year old body.

I keep getting the same vibe of "don't pay any attention". It is like my guides are not wanting me to engage, that my time can be better spent elsewhere, and my heart. Think how hard it is to pray for suffering people when all involved in snarking each other and feeling the stings of getting put down? And all for what? Nothing, not one good thing comes of it. It diverts attention and emotion from productive things.

It is absolutely not just you lildreamer316, I am getting the same vibe loud and clear.

10. I was told not to post unless I had something say
that would add to the post. That meant I was to agree with the poster. I was all but called a liar and told that what I posted was a red herring.

I really tried to elicit some defense of the poster's statement and all they wanted to do was shoo me away. It was over a health issue and people who are stuck in the "one way or the highway" route are apparently not willing to defend their pronouncements.

I DO know a woman who used to work for a pharmaceutical company setting up the trials. If the outcome of the trials did not match what they wanted, they would just change the parameters of the trial so it fit the outcome.

12. I saw that thread
You were treated horrendously. The "agreeing" anecdotes were acceptable, but yours, while just as truthful, wasn't, because it didn't agree. There are far too many people on DU who believe that their reality is correct and everyone else's isn't. And to that I say :wtf:

14. Hard to keep your perspective when they're being so nasty
That's why I rarely go out there anymore. It's getting more and more difficult to hold my tongue with them. A couple of times I've had to turn off the laptop instead of writing "bite me you snarky shit" to one of the attackers.

It's hard to rise above it sometimes.

13. I've had ZERO interest in even reading other forums....

Now that I think about it, that's very unusual for me. I haven't read hardly anything in over a week in the way of news (beyond Haiti), nor am I really interested in reading anywhere else. I'm focused on projects, and it sounds like that's a good thing from what you guys are sharing here.

15. i still believe a no-holds barred "viper pit" should be made for DU.
that way we could have all the negativity vomited out in one licensed area and then have stricter controls about it when it leaks out from there.

often most dialogues in forum areas are about counting coup with gotchas and zingers, most of which are old and no longer witty. but the kids gotta learn somewhere, what can you do but be patient....?

16. Wow, you are not kidding!
I started a thread asking if anyone had heard anything about Jimmy Carter regarding the Haitian disaster (http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x7494527#top) I thought that perhaps I had just missed any news regarding the former President.

After being gone most of the day, I checked back on the thread and Holy Cow, I cannot believe some of the vile responses that the thread generated.

I was thinking of responding that I was truly just trying to find information. I always enjoyed the way President Carter can explain the most complex of situations in very simple terms. I guess I will just leave it be.

But my goodness, you hit the nail of the head. It isn't just you.

:wtf: was THAT train wreck all about?! YIKES! :scared:

Sorry you got dragged over 10 miles of rough road there, Jeanette. There was NO reason for people on that thread to take your question so many different, intentionally offended ways.

That does it. I'm staying right here. Might dip my toe into teh Lounge, but I couldn't guarantee it. Zoinks.

21. The vitriol will likely be ramped up now,
what with the SCOTUS decision and the Brown election. No telling how low Congress and the Senate will sink, either, as we already know how low the Supremes can get now :eyes:

So, I can understand that you would get those comments, due primarily to the fact that people don't seem to read anymore, preferring to react instead. There was one reply that hit the nail on the head, though: the press simply don't cover Carter any more.

I've also recently been involved in this kind of thread, in of all places, The Lounge. Trying to defend my home state from someone that refused to acknowledge what they were doing was bashing. Even with help from other fellow residents, he never got the message until the thread was locked.

I am getting the idea that what we are going through at this time is also making people more dense :P

I admit, some comments provoked a few hand slaps across the keyboard from me, but mostly, it was being mad at new best friends W and Bill Clinton.

It's outta me now...

Thanks.

Those are forums I never go to.
Why do they bother with us? It sounds like a waste of time and energy. I guess some people like to do things like that to make themselves feel superior.

26. One of them I go to in order to see what civil issues are going on
like harassment, civil-liberties violations and so on. Those are universal no matter what you believe and should be defended by all. The rest of the time, my thread-viewing is kind of a "morbid curiosity" that doesn't last ;)

The superiority mindset is rampant, unfortunately, and saddens me that people get like that instead of learning to live and let live.

27. That was sad
I can't stand to see people thrive on hatred in general, and belittlement and mockery of others. Seems like there are healthier ways to live.

I also get offended when complete strangers declare that they know exactly how/what I--or anyone else they've never met--think and believe. They don't know a damned thing. But that's how I manage not to take it personally after the initial :wtf: :grr: .
