Anyone know of any good places in general to meet spiritual people?

I've been trying to come up with some ideas, however, I'm curious to know what other people do. What groups or organiations are there that are, lets' say, "spiritually awake"?

1. I find that I encounter the really striking ones when I'm not looking.....

like when I am walking my dog in the woods, parks, on the beach......

but I would guess, based on my other experiences:

Unitarian Universalist congregations

Yoga, meditation, alternative/complementary medicine courses, workshops, ETC.

Natural childbirth groups, La Leche League get togethers, etc.

Organic Food stores/some animal rights groups......

Many more possibilities, but this is what I came up with off the top of my head.

2. Sometimes a metaphysical bookstore

The problem is there are a great number of wanna-be's and others whose ego have overtaken them. It causes the open channel to clog up with self importance. True spiritually awake beings are everywhere. They are spread out amoungst the general population ready to do whatever needs to be done. As the above post said you'll just run into them when you least expect it.

3. Don't forget

to check out the "Seekers on Unique Paths" DU group; you'll find many there!

I agree with DemExPat's suggestions. In addition to those, you can look for Interfaith services, which bring many together to sample at once. Don't hesitate to check out your local yellow pages; in my new community, mine lists the "spiritual awareness center." My mother has attended some of their gatherings, and gives good reports. They are an independent local group, not affiliated with any big organized path.
