Any other "sensitives" having a hard time? How do you cope?
Whenever big national tragedies happen, I have to be sure to keep myself extra shielded or I am a total wreck. Katrina seems to be hitting me especially hard, because I love New Orleans so much (even though I've only been there twice). Seeing it like this, and so much human suffering...there's really no words for it. I can't even seem to ground properly. Just practically, I've turned the TV off, etc. but it doesn't seem to be helping much. I know there must be some other folks around here who are also sensitive and I was wondering what you all are doing to cope.

1. I'm having trouble too
Here's a hug.

It's hard to fathom the suffering that is going on now and will continue for many months.

I try to tell myself that it is a gift to be sensitive- even at times like this.

Taking some kind of action helps if it is only donating money.

4. Thanks

I hate feeling so helpless. I don't have much but I'm going to give what I can.

2. I watch anything but the news.
However, when I do, I quickly hurry away because the sadness I feel for those suffering is overwhelming.

3. Not so much
Edited on Tue Aug-30-05 08:43 PM by FreedomAngel82
I wasn't expecting this to happen and I don't feel dejavu with it like I did with 9/11 and JFK junior's plane crash. Luckily I'm shielded but it is very emotionally draining. And so much coverage (appropriate of course) and so many hurt people.

5. Not all that well
I couldn't sleep at all Sunday night, and tonight I'm feeling frantic, wondering what I could do to elevate awareness and donate money.

Raising Money, Awareness, Spirits: A Suggestion Thread
by CarolDuhart

As I sit here, I keep wondering what it is I could do to enhance public awareness and make people give more and more, and thoughts keep running through my head of:
We are the World-remember when all the celebrities got together and did a show? And this year's Live Aid? Can we do it again? And there are so many other ideas I want to throw out.
The reason why I am throwing out ideas is in the hope that someone will actually run with them. I don't have connections, and the one attempt to create a webpage full of links has fell victim to anger and a churning stomach.
CarolDuhart's diary :: ::
An all exclusive website just for hurricane relief information so that people can just go to one site.
Can we do as much for New Orleans as we did for Howard Dean? We are still the power, aren't we. If we raised enough for hurricane victims as we did for his campaign, I bet he would gladly reprise his scream.
Anybody got banners for flood relief efforts?
We need celebrities to help with our asking. Is Martin Sheen or Bruce Springsteen (examples only) available? What about sermons from the pulpit this Sunday? Can we get preachers talking about relief?
Would Carter help?
BTW, please post more ideas or things that you have done with the ideas that I suggested or things that you've already done to raise awareness. (Since Shrub is doing his Nero act)

6. I don't consider myself a sensitive but I have an awful
time coping with what could have been different. I guess it sometimes is so obvious to me what the right path is to be walked and yet I watch those who can do it take the destructive path and get away with it.

7. I could have posted this!
We're experiencing the wind/rain remnants from Katrina today here in NE. While I was out walking my dogs, I could literally smell the fear in the air-very, very jaggedy auras everywhere from people, cars. All my animals are "spooky".
I'm feeling heartbroken over all the suffering. I felt this same bottomless sadness during the Tsunami last Dec. but this is MUCH stronger and scarier. Not so much scary for me personally, but scary for all of us. Much fear about the gasoline prices also......
Thinking today was Tuesday, I was going to go a local Reiki circle to smooth out-but realized that it's Wednesday! All day long, I've thought it's Tuesday!
I probably shouldn't be reading thru the posts on DU tonight and go listen to quiet music.
Sending peaceful thoughts out to all...:hi:

8. Spiral Up...
Spiral up, like a hawk, until you can see a bigger picture that you can cope with. Recognize the cycle of things. Even in death, there will be rebirth. It's the way of things. Do what you can to help, even if it's only to be a witness to this chapter of humanity's story.

Transmute energy with love. Cry. Write. Keep your heart chakra open to be the vessel for the love and light that is so desperately needed right now.

9. Hi Chovexani, I have become overloaded myself.
I can not stand to see the horror & suffering in that devastated area. My god, I am so terribly upset right now.
I am bothered to my core right now.

11. I'm just so tired.
I can't get grounded and I am tired to the bone right now. I started feeling like this when they ordered the evac of NOLA, and it has grown a lot worse with all the news out of there.

I have added some more earth to my daily regimens, but it just hasn't been enough. I started carrying a couple of my favorite rocks with me. I actually went out and sat under a tree last night while I watched my daughter chase butterflies with her buddies. That helped some.

I'm hoping to go climb a few trees this weekend looking for some relief...

12. phew. i have had to stop reading the boards
i don't watch tv. i get my news right here and from other progressive news outlets. i am physically ill with asthma from it. i read very little last night, and i slept almost until daybreak. still had bad dreams this morning, but i'm not going to read anything today. well, that's impossible for me, but i am going to be more selective about what i read. i need to calm myself down. i also need a dose of st. john's wort.

of course, every time i drive by a gas station, i feel my energy being sapped out of me, i begin to feel helpless. i'm going to make a HUGE effort today to not sink, to not let this get to me more than it has. it's all very depressing.

13. Same problem
I realized tonight I have had a problem this week. The past week, I have not felt well, a different thing every day. The past few days, I have been a real bitch/asshole/dickweed. I finally realized it was because I have not let myself once cry about what has happened! I let my anger consume me and wouldn't allow for release other than mad rants and a short temper. Like you, I love NOLA. I have only been twice, but the first time I went, I fell in love! I have tried for almost two years to get a job there. I constantly look at the pictures I took there...but I haven't cried once! If I see a bad story or threads here, I stop watching or reading them. I don't want to feel the pain.

So, I am not coping. I will have to find a new way to work through this tragedy.

I saw another post of yours and I hope you will not leave...despite some of the crap you have seen here, there are some who really are caring, progressive people.

and had to make a major life changing decision since Monday. I "escape" by going to the movies and spending time with my family and friends. On edit: spell check:blush: I forgot to check for typos
