I am new to i-ching & invite you to help interpret this... fun fun fun!
I threw I-ching yesterday w/ question "how to succeed in stopping the Roberts' appointment" and got the hexagram #17 "following" with 3 changing lines. I read in threads in this forum that changing lines should be read individually but I am not sure what that means. Also, the interpretation on the web page I used doesn't make sense to me (I think it boils down to, 'just wait') Here's the hexagram:

Thanks!
Crikkett

2. OK, Crikkett here goes:
Your hexagram came up #17, "Following", or the Sui hexagram. This denotes the idea of good results following good actions. It's important to keep in mind that the hexagram is not about Roberts per se, but about us and anyone who is trying to stop his appointment. you have 3 changing lines. You count from the bottom, so you have changing lines 4, 5 and 6.
--------------------

**Line 4 is strong, and in the place of a great minister next to the ruler in 5. (= this would have to be Roberts, who is the minister next to the ruler, Bush). But his having adherents may be injurious to the supreme and sole (can you believe the used the word supreme!!) authority, and only a sincere loyalty will save him from error and misfortune. (= my interpretation; Roberts has adherents which will be harmful to Bush, and the only way to save himself is to be sincerely loyal. He won't be).
= = = = = =

**Line 5 is strong, and in its correct place, with 2 as its proper correlate, thus producing the auspicious symbolism. (= this looks really good, but good for who? Good for Roberts to get nominated, or good for his enemies?)
= = = = = =

***Line 6 represents the ideal of following directed by the most sincered adherents to what is right. This information not only extends to men, but to spiritual beings. Refers to King Wu. (= again, the image of a king, which would have to be Bush who's more of a king than a president).
-----------------
I think this is a mixed message. I can't tell if it means Roberts will be nominated, or if his detractors will be successful. Any ideas?

3.  thank you cliss
Those are things I'd never think have thought of.

Will have to watch this carefully to see how it bears out.

I have had odd feelings about Roberts ever since he was chosen by bush. Somewhere along the line there are feelings telling me that whatever the case with him, any angst over his nomination is not worth the effort.

5. I get mixed feelings myself

I'm pretty good at sensing but get mixed answers myself. I think Roberts is more loyal to someone else and not Bush. That is perfectly clear and very strong. Who? I don't know but someone with a lot of power and money. I don't know who it is since this person's vibe doesn't feel familiar to me. Bush is rewarding Roberts I think for the help he gave him in 2000. Remember that Bush does that. He promotes people who help him. Roberts knows way too much about Bush and 2000 so it wouldn't be good for Bush if he got on the bad side of whoever Roberts is loyal too. I think if the battle came up against Bush and this other person Roberts would be loyal to this other person. He and Bush don't have very friendly vibes going on. They put up a very good front but in reality I get the sense that they don't really care much for each other. Sort of using each other for their own private intrests. I also think someone got Bush to nominate Roberts first. Why him? I don't know. They just really wanted him. I thought it mighty strange they would get him first before someone who could pander to the fundies.

4. the Roberts question
that you asked seems to be phrased along the lines of- what actions can we take to stop his appointment to the s.c. iow, 17 suggests both following procedure, and taking appropriate actions. I would take this to mean that since we do not have the votes to block his appointment, those opposed should speak out against him, and vote against him. Of course it could also be read as Roberts following procedure and taking action, no doubt down to the letter of the law. It seems to describe Roberts' personality.
The moving lines 4,5, and 6, change the hexagram to 27, which is nourishment or "cheeks".
I think this is significant, and could show that Roberts, if confirmed, will be more 'nourishing' than expected.
