This is my thousandth post, unless I've miscounted, so please excuse a few words.
I want to say that I'm grateful for the progress that all our predecessors have bequeathed to us that supports us all, grateful for the progressive part of the history of the United States*, grateful to everyone that has worked to make DU a virtual meeting place for liberals and progressives to work out how to make the world flourish, and I'm really grateful that common project has survived the dark Bush years.
I thought I'd make my tiny "speech" here, though, and not in GD, because I'm especially grateful for this little ASAH group, which I credit for keeping me going when it got very dark. I'm at a point in my life when I see the sometimes belligerent, quite often aggressive, evangelically despairing rhetoric on the Left as, perhaps, the main obstacle to quicker progress on our common path. I'm not referring to mere expressions of despair of course, but something else, something more specific. This is the only area here on DU where that kind of thing can be fruitfully discussed, as I see it, and you guys make that possible. This group provides the kind of mutual support that I think we'll all need in the coming years, as more and more people wake up.
So, guys, I'm grateful to you. :-)

*The imperial part of that history, not so much.
