OGR to the Rescue!
Well, I finished work tonight couldn't send it off through Firefox nor Internet Explorer. I panicked because the night crew gets very antsy when reports aren't in on time. Time Warner's number was busy and still is - so obviously a system-wide problem.

The crazy thing is I could only connect to DU - no other sites, and still can't. Here's the thing, I figured maybe I could copy and paste the report into a PEM and have a buddy send it off.

Luckily, my girl, OGR was at home and saw my desperate flashing PM here at DU. She agreed to help me and sent off my work and got confirmation from my boss who initially laughed and laughed when I told him what I was going to do.

So I just want to say that on or offline, OGR is a true blue friend and consider myself lucky because I don't have the words to even begin to describe the incredible woman that she is.

Thanks, Girl  :loveya:  :loveya:

7. Aww, the feeling is so mutual!
 I honestly was about to have a breakdown because my reports have been kind of late due to this constant Time Warner problem. This summer alone I had over 1100 disconnects. They even changed the modem and still...

I think the Universe helped me clear this worrisome problem with my job with the assistance of OGR as the conduit, proving to the night shift that I'm not lying and the extremes I go through. Good friends are hard to come by and it may seem minor but this has been a big deal, and I want to really pay it forward.

10. It doesn't seem minor at all, Blue.
I can absolutely put myself in your shoes; I would have been feeling the same panic that you did, and I would have felt the same overwhelming gratitude to OGR for helping to solve the problem. (That's such an integral part of who she is. :))

We have such a great, safe community here. We're so lucky to have each other as trusted friends!

Thanks to OGR, to you, and to everyone else in this group who make this spot an oasis in the storm of life.

:loveya:

8. I know! That part of this internet
connection problem has never happened before. It's Always all or nothing. Being such a braniac - Not! - I disconnected and reconnected the modem but then lost the DU connection, too, as well as phone. But no matter, the most important thing was done!

14. that's a wonderful story! :) (and such a weird problem)
i can empathize -- i'd literally poop my pants if i had to mail an essay or presentation and couldn't get it sent. the stress of deadlines and technology eff ups.

but what a weird tech problem! i do know my way around a computer, here and there, and this is very unusual!

have you tried downloading NetZero dial up connection & Opera web browser, just in case? or is there a McD's or Starbucks nearby to get online access? TimeWarner may screw up all the cable, but NetZero dial up might be enough to get work through in an emergency, and Opera is so bare-bones that it often is overlooked by script kiddie hackers, and tends to be the most stable during an emergency.

i know it might be excessive to get those programs that'd otherwise just take up space on your machine. but that's what i'd do if you absolutely, positively need a backup system to mail things off to others. just a suggestion for the future.

16. NuttyFluffers, you're brilliant!
I can't believe I've Totally forgotten about dial-up. I still have 2 modems that I'm sure work.I will check out NetZero but I don't know what the Opera is and will investigate.
BTW, my sister who also has Time Warner and lives about 2hours away was also without internet service last night.
I'm still wondering how it was possible that DU was the only site that I could access. It's so incredibly curious.
Thank you so very much for the workarounds
