"The Most Spiritually Literate Films of 2010"
One of the key premises of spiritual literacy is that the whole world is charged with sacred meaning. We go to the theatre and sit in the dark to experience a close encounter with our own lives and the lives of others. We step into the story and look at both the small details and the bigger picture. We are attentive to what the film says to the masculine and feminine sides of ourselves. We listen to our inner child and the wild one inside us. We are always on the alert for epiphanies. We do not turn away from the shadow in films. And, given the long time and immense collaborative effort put into the creation of what we are seeing on the screen, we make it a rule not to trivialize the filmmakers art by making a quick or glib assessment. We always recommend that you let a film simmer in your soul for a while.

That's what we've been doing this year as we have contemplated our choices for the Most Spiritually Literate Films of 2010. Although there is no blockbuster standout like last year's Avatar, the variety of 2010 releases has impressed us immensely. During hard times, movies are more important than ever as they edify and inspire us with portraits of those who are animated by love, kindness, hospitality, compassion, openness, reverence, yearning, and much more. Welcome to our tour of the very best spiritual movies of 2010.

I've only seen two of the ones listed, so there's a lot here to see!

There is one on Hildegard von Bingen!

Thanks so much for posting this.

2. I so want to see the one on Hildegard von Bingen as well
I have been listening to her music- sung by sisters from her order and by professionals for 12 years now or perhaps more.

6. Good article! There are three on the list
I've been meaning to see: "The Secret of the Kells" - kept passing it up because the animation looked to weird, "Get Low"- kept passing it up after finding out Robert Duval is a
Republican, but I can't help loving him, and "Agora," a film I'd forgotten about.

7. Also saw The Secret of the Kells recently.
I enjoyed the animation even more than the plot, frankly. Not so much in the characters themselves, but all the details in the background whether it was nature, architectural, or the illuminated manuscripts. Very interesting.

8. Thanks for that, Tanyev!
Now I'm really looking forward to it. I must break out of my usual outlook on animation :)

9. I didn't see this one listed, but it probably should be
Now mind you I haven't seen it, but the synopsis goes a little like this:

“2012: Time for Change” presents an optimistic alternative to apocalyptic doom and gloom. Directed by Emmy Award nominee Joao Amorim, the film follows journalist Daniel Pinchbeck, author of the bestselling 2012: The Return of Quetzalcoatl, on a quest for a new paradigm that integrates the archaic wisdom of tribal cultures with the scientific method. As conscious agents of evolution, we can redesign post-industrial society on ecological principles to make a world that works for all. Rather than breakdown and barbarism, 2012 heralds the birth of a regenerative planetary culture where collaboration replaces competition, where exploration of psyche and spirit becomes the new cutting edge, replacing the sterile materialism that has pushed our world to the brink.

I would like to see Saint Misbehavin': The Wavy Gravy Movie. Wavy Gravy is a 60's icon. The doc seems like it will help shed some more insight into the man known as Wavy Gravy.

Thx for posting this IHAD

:hi:
