:hi:
Well, it's sneak peek time, and ASAHers are where I hope to find my focus/creation group. :)
I've been completely immersed over the last two weeks creating a brand new site for the Wishadoo! Community. It's like a house: The foundation is there, the construction phase is done, now it's time to move in furniture and appliances and decorate. A punch-list will no doubt be developed in the process, but hopefully nothing huge.
I do realize there are a decent amount of tweaks and content to be inserted, but I wanted to invite those of you who have time and interest to please check it out. It's VERY different from the old site. If you already belong to Wishadoo, you should be able to log in with your old username and password.
I've decided to keep the original site -- the one you may be familiar with, with the deep purple background (www.wishadoo.com) -- as the informational "hub" site, and hope to launch other projects you may have seen me ramble about from there.
The new
WISHADOO! COMMUNITY site clearly links with the main/base/hub site. (props to Kind of Blue for her help with graphics!!! Another header graphic is on the way with lovely dandelions incorporated :))
I've created a
FOCUS GROUP where we can discuss the different elements of Wishadoo!
I really want people to consider it their site, their community. One of the things I'd like to brainstorm about -- beyond the technical and functional aspect of the site -- is how to create different levels of community members so it is a
TRUE co-op. So that any revenue eventually generated by Wishadoo! is indeed shared with those who are officially invested and involved in creating the site.
Beyond offering feedback about the site and it's functionality, I'm hoping people will step forward to help with creating a comprehensive Resource Directory. It will take a while and it will always be changing (like a wiki), but if people come to Wishadoo and need help with housing, food, healthcare, childcare, and any of the myriad other needs one could have, I'd love for them to be able to click on the Resource Directory and find listings of agencies and organizations which can help them.
Especially for crisis situations, I feel it's best that people use existing resources -- instead of or in addition to posting in the Wishlist. One thing Wishadoo~ers do is when someone does post a crisis that they need help with, we look for existing help for them in their local community. That's Step One, and it has worked several times with a great result.
One brilliant ASAHer already started the process of gathering links of helpful organizations a while ago; I need to retrieve that info. Between us all, I'm sure we have a ton of links of organizations -- local, national, international -- that we can vouch for and recommend. The broader DU community will be a tremendous help with this, I have a feeling.
There are two Group features I hope to have implemented very soon. It requires some rather intense programming, so *fingers crossed*.
1) The ability for a group to have their own private wishlist. For larger groups like DU, for example; a DU group within Wishadoo could have it's own wishlist and only members of the DU group could see the listings. There are so many existing communities -- online and in the "real" world -- and if they have the ability to not only create a group within Wishadoo! but then have their own wishlist (because, for whatever reason, they don't want their wishes, hopes and needs displayed publicly), that will be a tremendous service Wishadoo is offering. My hope, of course, is that once they're engaged at Wishadoo they'll check out the public Wishlist regularly to see how they can reach out and help others.
2) Live chat within groups
I'll need to create a good FAQ page with "start here" instructions or something. I'll need feedback about categories -- for the Wishlist, Groups and Directory (especially the directory). Lots of things to chime in about once the basic functionality is ready.
Well, there's just a lot that needs to be worked on, but I feel I've been working on this 24/7 for the past 10 days and the foundation is good enough that it's time to invite you guys in so we can get this going. :)
The programmers have basically been showing me how to do things, rather than them actually doing all the tasks. That's good and bad; good to learn, bad because it's friggin exhausting to my pea brain. LOL
Fingers, toes and boobs crossed that you guys get a good feeling about it. It's a brand new energy, brand new site.
Time is of the essence for me, personally, for a variety of reasons, so please forgive me if you feel an "anxious" vibe coming from me. I'm trying to take moment at a time, but I also feel this overwhelming sense of "it's now or never"..."sink or swim".....:eyes:
Thanks in advance for your patience.
And, if you're led to be involved during this stage of Wishadoo!, thank you in advance!!!
