Sneak peek, and an invitation to check out and help create the new Wishadoo!
:hi:

Well, it's sneak peek time, and ASAHers are where I hope to find my focus/creation group. :)

I've been completely immersed over the last two weeks creating a brand new site for the Wishadoo! Community. It's like a house: The foundation is there, the construction phase is done, now it's time to move in furniture and appliances and decorate. A punch-list will no doubt be developed in the process, but hopefully nothing huge.

I do realize there are a decent amount of tweaks and content to be inserted, but I wanted to invite those of you who have time and interest to please check it out. It's VERY different from the old site. If you already belong to Wishadoo, you should be able to log in with your old username and password.

I've decided to keep the original site -- the one you may be familiar with, with the deep purple background (www.wishadoo.com) -- as the informational "hub" site, and hope to launch other projects you may have seen me ramble about from there.

The new WISHADOO! COMMUNITY site clearly links with the main/base/hub site. (props to Kind of Blue for her help with graphics!!! Another header graphic is on the way with lovely dandelions incorporated :))

I've created a FOCUS GROUP where we can discuss the different elements of Wishadoo!

I really want people to consider it their site, their community. One of the things I'd like to brainstorm about -- beyond the technical and functional aspect of the site -- is how to create different levels of community members so it is a TRUE co-op. So that any revenue eventually generated by Wishadoo! is indeed shared with those who are officially invested and involved in creating the site.

Beyond offering feedback about the site and it's functionality, I'm hoping people will step forward to help with creating a comprehensive Resource Directory. It will take a while and it will always be changing (like a wiki), but if people come to Wishadoo and need help with housing, food, healthcare, childcare, and any of the myriad other needs one could have, I'd love for them to be able to click on the Resource Directory and find listings of agencies and organizations which can help them.

Especially for crisis situations, I feel it's best that people use existing resources -- instead of or in addition to posting in the Wishlist. One thing Wishadoo~ers do is when someone does post a crisis that they need help with, we look for existing help for them in their local community. That's Step One, and it has worked several times with a great result.

One brilliant ASAHer already started the process of gathering links of helpful organizations a while ago; I need to retrieve that info. Between us all, I'm sure we have a ton of links of organizations -- local, national, international -- that we can vouch for and recommend. The broader DU community will be a tremendous help with this, I have a feeling.

There are two Group features I hope to have implemented very soon. It requires some rather intense programming, so *fingers crossed*.

1) The ability for a group to have their own private wishlist. For larger groups like DU, for example; a DU group within Wishadoo could have it's own wishlist and only members of the DU group could see the listings. There are so many existing communities -- online and in the "real" world -- and if they have the ability to not only create a group within Wishadoo! but then have their own wishlist (because, for whatever reason, they don't want their wishes, hopes and needs displayed publicly), that will be a tremendous service Wishadoo is offering. My hope, of course, is that once they're engaged at Wishadoo they'll check out the public Wishlist regularly to see how they can reach out and help others.

2) Live chat within groups

I'll need to create a good FAQ page with "start here" instructions or something. I'll need feedback about categories -- for the Wishlist, Groups and Directory (especially the directory). Lots of things to chime in about once the basic functionality is ready.

Well, there's just a lot that needs to be worked on, but I feel I've been working on this 24/7 for the past 10 days and the foundation is good enough that it's time to invite you guys in so we can get this going. :)

The programmers have basically been showing me how to do things, rather than them actually doing all the tasks. That's good and bad; good to learn, bad because it's friggin exhausting to my pea brain. LOL

Fingers, toes and boobs crossed that you guys get a good feeling about it. It's a brand new energy, brand new site.

Time is of the essence for me, personally, for a variety of reasons, so please forgive me if you feel an "anxious" vibe coming from me. I'm trying to take moment at a time, but I also feel this overwhelming sense of "it's now or never"..."sink or swim".....:eyes:

Thanks in advance for your patience.

And, if you're led to be involved during this stage of Wishadoo!, thank you in advance!!!

:grouphug:

1. Consider my fingers, toes and boobs crossed for your dream, OGR!
And the boobs seem to be the easiest to cross at this age in my life, no arthritis there at least!

As things settle down in my life, hopefully soon, I plan to contribute as much as possible to Wishadoo. I'm experiencing the same 'sink or swim' in my life and understand completely where you are coming from.

You are an awesome woman with an awesome dream that will soon become a beautiful reality, OGR!:hug::hug:

4. They were perky for about the first fifteen minutes in 5th grade,
then gravity gave 'em a good yank!

I'll be there to help as soon as possible. I have stuff people may need. Gave away so much when moved from house in 2009, but somehow more stuff accumulated.

18. I missed this before...

I'm with you. I think the last time I had perky boobs was in the 5th grade, too!

Oh well...there MUST be a positive to the gravity thing -- somewhere?!

(I saw one of those "People of Walmart" pics that showed a woman who had her boobs tucked into her PANTS, with her pants pulled up for a strapless effect. There but for the grace of God....:eyes:...)

8. =) took me reading awhile to understand what Wishadoo is about.
mind if i give some constructive criticism?

i had trouble assessing the initial point of wishadoo, but after reading (considerably) on the website's 'About' and 'Founder's Stories' i think i'm getting it. let me run it by you to see if i'm close:

Wishadoo is a social network program to connect the good intentions of others to those in need, in a manner built upon an interactive, trusting relationship. It takes elements present in various other community and consumer directories, such as Angie's List, Yelp, Consumer Reports, Community Event Calendars, etc., and combines it with the personal element from social networking, in order to facilitate Compassion over Commerce (People over Things).

Wishadoo is a way for people to connect their regional network experience to assist the good intentions, or dear needs, of those with less regional knowledge.

Wishadoo is a way to transform what goodness we wish into what goodness we do.

am i close? am i off somewhere? if close, i might recommend a mission statement, or some other concise way to express the point of the website. in fact, a mini-tutorial on getting started might also be a great way to get things rolling. oh, and please feel free to take any of my synopsis to help communicate your vision to new users.

best of luck! :hi:

9. Couple of things....

I've written so much content for Wishadoo! over the last three years, explaining what it IS, that it is very hard for me at this point to narrow things down for clarity. Many people have contributed their idea of what Wishadoo! is and how to best convey that to others, so the current content ends up being a lot and needs edited for clarity.

Everyone has a different idea of the best way to describe Wishadoo!, which is why I would LOVE for you to please join the Focus Group I created and linked to in the OP. :)

I'm working on a FAQ page; people can click START HERE and they'll find the information you speak of here.

I'm aware that's desperately needed. :)

The other point of confusion for the moment is that I've literally created a new site in the last three weeks. That wasn't the intention. So, this has been a herculean task (thanks to new programming help) and I'm having to rethink everything.

So, there is some information at the "old" site now that needs to be incorporated into the new community site which will be all inclusive now. The "old" site will remain but be more of a "hub."

The new Wishadoo! Community can stand on its own, but there is a lot of content to be tweaked.

Thanks for the feedback and PLEASE consider joining that focus group!

10. And,, part of the difficulty in explaining Wishadoo!....
is that it is truly about so many things.

One person's idea of how Wishadoo! can create a new world is different from another's idea.

But both ideas -- and more -- ARE indeed Wishadoo!

Just sayin'. That's why it's very hard to get concise content. I don't want to limit the vision of Wishadoo -- or anyone else's vision of it.

That's hard. For me, at least. But I know some of you guys are extra brilliant and can help with that.

16. the front page is beautiful and the button names
are attractive and make you want to click.

Looking at your site, I was struck with the alarm it caused in me to ask for something! Interesting what triggers our "stuff"!
This is going to be a winner. You go girl!

Oh, no about the alarm! ;)

Thanks for checking it out, WhiteTara. It's stunning how much work goes into such a creation, from inception to manifestation (well, at least for me...lol).

I still have miles to go with this....
