I do believe that we will move toward a decentralized society where small, local groups create their own communities. It will happen even within large cities. People will turn away from corrupt corporatism and live within smaller, more manageable social units. It is the only way we can survive and remain human.

Advancing technologies will help. Lack of oil resources, the ravages of global warming and the absolute need to use renewable energy will force us to change. Most of us do not change unless we are forced to change.

1. A few of us have been talking about this for a while
I agree that people are turning away from the mainstream economy and are creating an alternative economy based on community.

2. There is a whole "relocalize now" movement happening in the Pacific Northwest
at the moment. Actually, I'm sure it's happening in more places than that, but it's huge in the Alternative Lifestyle crowd in my city.

4. That is a great link. Thanks.
I live in the country and already have the option to take advantage of a life that is closer to nature. It is intriguing to hear about things like urban farming in places like Detroit.

5. It's a natural reaction to the corporatizing of absolutely everything. nt
