I posted about six weeks ago requesting that you send light and support to my son Jack who was waitlisted to two middle schools. We were both pretty distressed because he had worked so hard to overcome a mild learning disability. I worried that he would feel as if all of his hard work was wasted. Well, we've yet to hear back from the waitlisted schools, but the head of his current school, looked around to see if there were openings at any of the other schools in the area. Turns out that there was a k-8 that was looking for boys (they try to keep a balance). Anyway, long story short Jack spent two days shadowing at the school and loved it. It is in a beautiful wooded setting about 15 miles from our house. The school is academically rigorous, but they are also very nurturing and they provide lots of support, tutoring, etc. It is a small school with only 270 or so students, it has a reputation for being progressive and it is pretty diverse. I would never have considered this school because it only goes through 8th grade and I wanted a 6-12 so we wouldn't have to find another school in three years, but I guess it is for the "good of all concerned". Time will tell. Any way thank you all. I felt an instant sense of relief as soon as I posted my request for support and began to hear from you all. It was pretty amazing.
