Off topic, but I want to share
It was a group effort. The DON’TS came hesitantly at first, then gained speed and began spilling from our hearts, out through our mouths. We opened up to speak and it came in a torrent, gaining energy all the way to the board where they were being written. Twelve don’ts and then our group leader said, that was enough.

He wrote them all. Don’t be selfish. Don’t feel sorry for yourself. Don’t kiss the dog. Don’t tell secrets. The list filled the whiteboard in front of us.

Our dear friend then took the marker and put an X over each DON’T.

I released my breath and felt my whole body relax. Everyone in the room did the same. There was lightness in the air. We began to giggle and laugh out loud.

The list now reads:

be selfish
feel sorry for yourself
kiss the dog
talk too loud
play in the front yard
fight
touch your brother
eat before dinner
hang upside down in a skirt
embarass us
tell secrets
complain

3. Especially, "hang upside down with a skirt on"
For those of us who remember when girls were not allowed to wear pants to school.

4. PE/Brownies
We had to wear our little Brownie dresses on days when we had meetings after school, but when I was in second grade that was also the same day as PE for my class so all us Brownies had to stand around on the side of the gym because we weren't allowed to participate in anything since we had on dresses.
