Is Spirit speaking to me through Coyote?
Edited on Sat Jun-11-11 12:27 PM by Cleita
Let me explain a little. I live in coyote country and often hear them at night but have never seen one in the thirteen years I have lived here until yesterday. About a month ago, Benny my cat, got badly beaten up by a feral cat. He's still recovering from having his trachea punctured and still doesn't have his voice or meow completely back.

So three nights ago I was awakened with a cat screaming followed with the yelps of a pack of coyotes practically in my back yard. Since there was no moon, it was pitch black and thank the Goddess I didn't see the murder happen. Benny was besides himself in agitation and palpably trembled in my arms. I do believe he did see what happened through his cat eyes night vision. He stayed home and under the bed all day. We don't have too many feral cats around. They disappear eventually. I believe that the feral cat that beat up Benny was probably the coyote pack's meal that night. However, it bothered me emotionally and I couldn't get it out of my mind. I certainly didn't want the poor kitty to end his life that way.

So yesterday afternoon, I'm sitting at my computer, when I hear a coyote yelp, in daytime! I ran to the window and it kept yelping but I didn't see him at first, then I saw him in broad daylight up in the eucalyptus woods but in full view and not hiding in the shadows but out in the sunlight streaming between the trees and he was fully visible. He was looking directly at me. When he saw that I saw him, he turned around and ran off into the woods and disappeared. I was upset. I don't like wild animals not behaving like they are supposed to. It tells me something is wrong. Is there an earthquake or other event coming? Well, nothing happened so I wondered if it was a message.

Usually messages from Spirit come to me through birds, sometimes ravens, sometimes hawks but usually doves. If I see doves trying to interact with me, then I know I must do something that I have been neglecting or look for the signs that Spirit wants me to see. I often think they are messages from my dead husband because his surname means peace and doves are associated with peace. But a coyote?

I found this in Native American lore, "COYOTE - is the trickster. When we're being too serious about life Coyote may come along to teach us to laugh at ourselves. It is also the karmic enforcer, reminding us that whatever we do to others will be done to us. Learning to balance wisdom with a sense of humor to make life work for us."

I am confused with the message. Can anyone help me?

1. I saw a coyote in the day time once
and it was at a time that I really needed to laugh at myself and my situation that I had created that was way whacked out of proportion to what was needed. I needed to gain a better perspective and I do think 'coyote' appeared to do just that. I knew what it was there for at the time but it took me several months of reflection to come to terms with the lesson.

2. Coyote is not what you expect...
First, let me say I understand the fear factor when dealing with kitties too... i live in high country and the sound of a pack attack is horrifying, and even my 'tough' kitty knows how to hide and comes to be near me if she hears them.

that said, they are not always nocturnal either...and since the energy of the trickster is very strong with them, they are not going to stick to the rules of engagement either...

Coyote is neither good nor bad, nor all fun and games or ill omen...he is all of the above and none of the above.
ya, i know i am being really helpful, huh?

if you can look past the fear piece that gets triggered by coyote, then you can perhaps see what he has to tell you.
look deeper, watch your back, but be open to the weird and wyrd of how he will be revealing truths to you...

when i see coyote, i usually make a mental note to keep my eyes open that day for things to not be what they seem... or to just make sure i don't slip on any spiritual bananna peels either! ;)

3. Very Interesting.
I enjoyed reading about this. I know next to nothing about Coyotes and spiritual messages thru animals, but I think, that there is a chance he was trying to tell you that he took care of things for you. Even though you didn't want the other kittie dead, the coyote was performing a service.

4. could this be the message?
whatever we do to others will be done to us

Not a pleasant thing to ponder, but maybe that is what the coyote was saying to you about the feral cat. "We," in this situation, is the feral cat.

5. We have lots of coyotes living near us
I used to listen to their murderous parties and shudder. They seemed so evil and I wished they would die off or move along. Then my whole area became over infected with rabbits and squirrels that have made our landscape absolutely impossible to maintain. Those cute little critters are destructive and there's way too many of them. All the sudden, those coyotes seemed so important to have around. It seems so cruel, but the circle of life does have a meaning and a purpose.

I know you were looking for a message through the coyote, not people's opinions on coyotes. I do believe coyotes get a bad rap, as so many of us in life.
