Tomorrow, I am going to be hypnotized.
I have quit smoking five times in five years. Each attempt has been better than the last, but I still backslide into smoking.

This has to be it. I need something to help me start and stick with it. No medical help was right for me.

This is a good time to clean up my life. I am feeling confident.

I will let you know tomorrow about how it went.

Pray for my success, friends!

1. Good luck, Muriel!
A strong desire on your part will improve the chances that the hypnosis will be successful.
It's a tough habit to break.....I did it 25 yrs ago. Glad I did......could not afford it today.

My wish for you = NO MORE :smoke: !

5. I quit in 2001 with the help of Nicoderm CQ. Stayed clean for 7 years
then started back again in 2008. I quit again for good last November with the help of Nicoderm CQ. What really helped me the most was the day that I smoked 2 cigarettes before work (I work at the hospital) and then put on a nicotine patch and went to work. I felt fine until about mid-morning, I started to sweat profusely, felt nauseated, had heart palpitations, dizziness, and realized that I was suffering from nicotine overload. Fortunately, I'm in a clerical job (not a critical position), so I was able to detox for a bit without anything bad happening. It made me sick enough that I didn't even need to finish the nicoderm patches. I never want to feel that bad again.

Sending positive energies and asking the Universe to give you the strength you need to conquer this habit. Blessings and peace to you, Muriel.

6. Thanks for the encouragement, everyone.
Hypnosis is not what I would expect. I remember hearing everything she said, and responding to commands. But now, I can't remember all of it.

I came out of it relaxed, but tired also.

I can go back twice more, as she said, "Whether I need it or not."

I feel positive about this.

8. I attend group hypnosis for stress
several times a year. I love it. It surprises me each time I do it as there is a point where I think, well, this isn't going to work and the next thing I hear is the words to bring me back to consciousness. It helps with stress and focus on projects and ideas I am working on.

Glad you get to go back and get some more. Yay.

7. Good luck. I have tried being hypnotized twice, to no avail.
I've also tried self-hypnotism, and gotten nowhere.

9. when I quit smoking I envisioned myself
with my arms down at my sides, relaxed; my hands empty and at ease. It helped. I also kept busy for that first period of time when you realize how much time it takes to smoke. I cleaned closets, walls, whatever. I love being cigarette free. I've been that way for 30 years. Yeah!

10. high five
to you and SouthernCrone. Thirty-one years without a cigarette here. ;)

Quit caring about them a long time ago. You'd have to put a gun to my head to get me to go back.

One thing, though. Might want to build in some auxiliary help, like a substitution activity. In my case, I spent my evenings walking around the track at the gym. Kept me away from the "boredom cigarette."

In retrospect, I think hypnosis is a powerful, vvaluable tool. I think it's a wise idea to have some other plans into play, though.

12. Before I went to see this lady, she asked me to come up
with substitution activities. She wanted to discuss them with me and incorporate them into the session.

11. Keep in mind that the skills of
individual hypnotists can vary widely. There's no accepted standard of training, and there are those who take a weekend workshop and decide to start doing hypnosis.

Last year I trained as a hypnotherapist in a very intensive program and got over 600 hours of training, and I know there's still more I can learn.

14. This is going well.
I do want to smoke sometimes. Sometimes it is hard to get over a craving. But I intend to stick with this.

I will contact the hypnotherapist again on the 13th. I also have a CD to listen to if I need it.

I am under quite a bit of stress, too. I am worried about my brother. My brother just had his big toe amputated. He will be in a nursing home for a couple of weeks. My husband and I help him out. So does my son, but he is gone for a week. There is a friend who helps, too. His stupid family does not even visit him.

I am glad I can be there for my brother. But his family makes me angry.
