Tomato Thief
Edited on Sat Aug-13-11 07:48 PM by eilen
So all this time I thought that my tomatoes were just growing really slow because of that heat wave we had. Turns out my dog has a nose for ripe tomatoes and has been enjoying them fresh off the vine.

She ignores the green ones. And I thought dogs were color blind.

I found out this morning. I hooked her up to the dog run (we don't have a fence) for her first thing in the am piddle. I usually take her for a good walk an hour or so afterwards. Then as I am getting coffee, I look out the window and there she is nosing in my tomato plants, runs off with a little red tomato in her mouth, lies down a few feet away and goes at it. Then back up for more! I quickly ran out there, took her off the line, brought her up on the deck and the stinker ran out the other gate back to the garden! I had to run across the yard again and physically take her back to the deck. She was sure full of spunk this morning. I hope my neighbors enjoyed the show!

Good Gad, I've never seen a dog do this before!

I just uploaded some pics I took of her on one of our walks and it came out sort of funny-- almost like an aura around her.

2. Oh how funny.
I guess you are going to have to put some chicken wire baskets over them to keep her from eating them.

3. WOW!
That does look like an aura!

For whatever reason, I've been noticing them a lot lately.

Saw the auras of a couple in a TV program a few weeks ago as they walked through a field.

4. She's beautiful!!!
How funny....

I just took a bunch of tomatoes down to the mailbox with a sign for people to please take some. When it rains, it pours. I think I have a few squirrels who like tomatoes though, and that's cool. :)

I'd bet the smell different to her when ripe!

She is a beautiful dog. I always think white GSDs are angelic-looking.

Smart stinker, LOL, HERDING GROUP; brainy, beautiful, and bewildering.

10. She is gorgeous, eilen
and that's an amazing photo. Couple years ago I did read some folks in the Pet Group talking about their veggie stealing pups.
I've got some sprouts, 4 Legged mixture. Our dogs get some kind of veggies every day. Your beauty might enjoy sprouts too! :)

11. Remember how much more powerful their noses are than our own?
And I agree: love me some tormatos.

12. love your dog
Love that picture.

Maybe there are some spirits hanging around, causing that lovely aura effect.

Funny story; as a gardener and animal lover, I really enjoyed it.
