Can I ask for some light and love for my mom?

My mom is sick and they don't know what's wrong with her.

My mom NEVER gets sick. She's always active, can dance for hours at a time and is super healthy. We joke that she's going to outlive us all (she's young; early 60s).

But, she's been sick for the past six weeks with severe abdominal pain that her doctor thought was her gall bladder, but she does not have a gall bladder. She has elevated lipase levels, which can mean one of seven diagnoses, but her symptoms don't match any of them. So her doctor is stumped and my mom is really scared. Nothing helps the pain and she's getting worse everyday. She can barely eat anything (soup and yogurt is about all she can tolerate).

Right now she's having an ultrasound.

I'm trying not to worry, but you can hear the pain in her voice.

SF, are they checking her intestines? Like for a blockage or Crohn's or diverticulitis? That was the first thing that came to mind when I read you post, FWIW.

No wonder she is scared...and you're scared. Chances are it's something benign, and very treatable, and hopefully the ultrasound will help them see what it is right away!

it's hard to not focus on the fear in a situation like this. but now is the time it's most needed to have faith that an explanation -- one where you can actively come back to health -- will come.

We are still waiting for the results. They said it would take a week, but I'm looking at that as a positive -- if they were really worried about something bad, they would have rushed the results.

20. Update

The pain is being caused by cysts on her liver. That's what the ultrasound showed, so we don't know what will happen next. I think it's just very painful, but not serious.

Yay! Hopefully you and your mom both feel relieved now that they know the source of the pain. Not knowing is so often the worst part of these incidents.
