Please think good thoughts for Mr. Missy Vixen

The past three months have been pretty tumultuous at our house. We lost our grandma last month. I was very ill (better now!), and Mr. MV had a minor surgery in August. Mr. MV's mother is critically ill. The information we're getting is not good. (She has congestive heart failure, she needs dialysis, which she's not strong enough to get right now, and an infection around her heart tested positive for MRSA over the weekend.)

Mr. MV's mother is bipolar. Their relationship hasn't been great. I am worried about what will happen with him if things worsen with her. Without posting a lot more personal family information, I would deeply appreciate your thoughts and prayers for my husband, and any positive thoughts for knowing what to do/say to help him get through this.

16. Mr. MV's mom died about an hour ago

Thank you to everyone who sent good thoughts, prayers, Reiki, and white light.

He's insisting he has to go back to work today. I'm hoping they'll send him home when he gets there.

18. Thank you to everyone who thought of us

Mr. Missy Vixen is exhibiting some of the typical grieving stuff - sleep interruptions, a little cranky on Saturday night, talking a lot about our grandma and his mother - but so far, he's doing well. We've been very fortunate to hear from many people who know us with condolences, which is comforting to him.

The current atmosphere in his family is uncomfortable at best. Mr. MV's aunt (right-wing and hyper-religious,) has taken over as the "matriarch", so to speak, and she's already made it clear it's her way or the highway regarding family holiday observances, etcetera. We talked a little after our grandma's will was read yesterday, and he said he is unhappy with this state of affairs. My husband is the king of calm and diplomacy, so when he says he's feeling pressured by our aunt in any way, shape or form, it's not just my imagination. I realize that two deaths in five weeks can cause problems in any family, but there are things that have been bubbling to the surface for awhile that are about to see the light of day.

19. Even though your husband is uber diplomatic, encourage him to

talk about how he feels: past, present, future. I found that after my loved ones died (husband, mother, father) many people seemed reluctant to talk about those family members. It felt so liberating for me to just say whatever I was feeling about them at the time and I did notice some raised eyebrows, because I was speaking from the depths of my feelings. I wish people didn't feel like they need to tiptoe around death. It's a part of life and living, and we're all gonna do it at some point. As all animals know, death is not something to be feared.

23. We were having a conversation at 3:30 yesterday morning.

One of the dubious benefits to getting older is waking up at odd hours and having a little chat. ;-) We were talking about Grandma. He told me that he is much more upset about losing Grandma than he is about his mother, which I'm sure some people would find cold-hearted. I understand why he feels that way, so mostly, I encourage him to say what he's feeling.

Wish the family dynamics were more caring and understanding of their loved ones' needs. Praying for a pleasant transit for the grandmother and that the painful grief can be eased by happy memories of her instead of the crap being dished out by those needing to be in charge. Time for lots of love to carry you through this difficult, and hopefully short lived, family trauma.
