Strange dream about a rat and PM Tony Blair

After reading Ms. Waverly's post I thought you might enjoy hearing about the strange dream I had last night:

I dreamt that I was with a very good family friend named Ann. We both worked for Tony Blair and were in a house (very nice and high priced house that actually exists in my old neighborhood). There were other people, some young men who lived there. It was apparent to me in the dream that there were gays living in the house. It was a very peaceful atmosphere within the house and there was a great sense of tolerance among those who lived there.

We had bought a white rat to have as a pet. And, it was decided (against my better judgment) that the rat could sort of have the run of the house. My friend Ann, and I, were looking for the rat in what was like an attic. It had white carpet and was very clean and tidy. An attic, but more like a nice walk-in closet where Tony B. kept his stuff. As I searched for the rat I found myself impressed with how nicely Tony B. kept everything. There was even a coffin there! It was a beautiful, very simple white burled wood coffin. And, I commented to my friend that it was really amazing how "Tony planned ahead and took care of things." In the dream, I was thinking that it was pretty impressive that he had even made some arrangements for his funeral, ahead of time.

As we searched for the rat I noticed that the rat had gone to the bathroom all over the place- big piles, more like a cat or dog would leave. I thought that it was not a good idea to have given this rat the run of the place. I began to get concerned because Tony was going to be arriving at the house soon. Then Tony got there and we chatted in the kitchen...and then I woke up.

In the dream Tony B. was like an old friend, even though we worked for him. He was someone everyone in the house held in very high esteem. Sort of like a neighbor you've known for 25 years. The dream was very casual and very calm.

What do you all think? I would love to know!

1. The part about the rat having the run of the place is,

According to my dream book, a diseased element running amuck.

Other than that I can only look up words but can't get a feel for what it means for certain. I almost feel sorry for Tony from this dream. It seems he's not a totally horrible guy. I'm sure some of the others can get a better hit than I can. I'd be interested in reading what others think.

White= purity, goodness and positive aspects in a situation or life.
Rat= a diseased element
Coffin = an emotionally comatose state of being or a forewarning of an actual death
Carpet = underlying characteristics of an individual
Attic = Conscious mind

2. Yes, that is very interesting

two things I see, white, cleanliness, things in order vs a rat out of control, who has
no appreciation of the beauty and shits on everything that hard work of others has
produced, powerful dream. Not sure where the coffin fits in.

4. I have been thinking about this one all day and,

I tend to think that the rat is Bush- ie, Some thing that we brought into our house. He's a RAT for sure, running about leaving piles of * for us to clean up!! And, he's like a disease/cancer to some of us! Do you think the house actually represent the people's house,ie, the WH??

Do we need to 'clean house' (get rid of the rat Bush) for our friends/allies (Blair and others) around the world??

Does the coffin symbolize a 'planned'death ??? It is very strange to see * co. over there in Pakistan and wonder about how safe he really is.

6. I think the coffin doesn't mean death

I think in dreams that it usually means an ending, starting a new cycle. I am thinking
that the rat brings chaos but although he causes damage, the house remains intact, I think
that is important, I think that Blair represent the Brits and our friendship with them, I hope it can outlast this fiasco.

3. Interesting dream.

Could Bush be the rat that runs amok soiling everything that Tony Blair once stood for, especially since the attic stands for his mind and the rat is soiling there as well? The coffin which much like the Death card in the Tarot probably doesn't stand for actual death, but the end of a situation. Could it be that the coffin in the attic stands for the end of his career thanks to the Bush rat? Since it's in the attic, could it mean that Blair knows it's a matter of time in the back of his mind?

Very interesting! Especially about the symbolism of the attic and higher mind.

One thing that stood out to me in the dream was that everyone in the dream was connected- We were all very peaceful and respectful of each other. The way a close family is bonded together. And, we were WAITING for T. Blair to arrive. I don't know quite what that means.

This would apply because the house we were in happened to be one from my old neighborhood that is very stately and sits up high on the hill above all of the others. The house of greatest value in the area, too.

To me it symbolizes the collective conscience of the country. We are all waiting to see what will happen.

9. Did anyone hear the Majority Report today?

Janeane was talking about Mrs. Blair and how she is publicly standing against her husband on many issues, including Iraq and torture. Putting her comments together with this thread is really interesting to me. Can't yet see where it fits together, but deep down, I feel it does somehow.

10. I tend to think rat= bush is probably a good explanation. You say, "it was

decided" was it a general consensus? So, it may well be, against your personal preference, the "majority" decided to let bush run his show. Elections.
Tony Blair appears to have his act together, whereas bush is just...well, a messy rat. A pet gone wild creating bigger messes every time.
It would be interesting to see what Blair, you, Ann and the rest of residents will do next.

11. Have you ever studied Chinese Astrology?

Sounds odd to ask that in this context, I know. It is the RAT in your dream that makes me ask about it.

In the typical Western view, a rat is pretty much a reviled animal--dirty, carries disease, potentially vicious. In the common Eastern mindset, the rat is seen as good fortune and an ability to accumulate (and hold!) items of value.

I feel that most dreams are "keyed" to the mind of the person doing the dreaming, however not all are. There are some universal symbols hanging out there, (you can see examples in places like Tarot card art) and Jung did a lot of work with this stuff in his discussions of dreams and psychoanalysis.

You speak of the rat in your dream as a pet--yet you seem to have some very real reluctance about letting it loose in the house. Sounds like a fairly Western attitude about rats...

Now, if you examine that dream with an Eastern view, suddenly that rat running about could be symbolic of materialism. Suddenly all that rat poop in your dream could be seen as some of the negative impact of materialism/capitalism run amuck...

Kind of a different spin on it--eh?

15. Yes, this part seems to fit.

Blair "did not look divinely inspired but 'troubled, confused and with a great deal on his conscience.'"

In the dream, the white rat 'got away' or took off without us being able to find it in the attic. The rat was only ever loose in the attic. This was the same area where I saw all of Tony B's beautiful material things and where the coffin was. I think that the attic may reflect his conscience or higher mind- Once beautiful but, now getting soiled with rat poop. Having allowed *co. (? the rat on the loose) into his house.

For some reason, I think that the coffin was symbolic of him sort of 'digging his own grave' at some point in the future.

It's sad because I used to like Tony B. but, it seems that he has sold his soul to the devil in the last several years.

The rat mess is the mess that TB (interesting initial combo) and B*** have made, of Iraq and their two countries. They've really put us in the "crapper", while keeping themselves lily white, free from blame. They've carpeted everything over along with carpet bombing a country that didn't touch us. The mess is getting out of hand now and their leadership is coming to an end.
