Does this happen to anybody else?
Edited on Thu Apr-06-06 01:05 PM by Cleita
I watch Sylvia Browne on Montel Williams every Wednesday and yesterday she mentioned hearing chatter and other noises that come to people when they are drifting off to sleep at night. I sat straight up because this happens to me.

I have heard music, really like a record that has been speeded up a bit and chatter also like it has been speeded up so it's somewhat higher pitched and faster talking. I can't make out what is being said or what the tune is actually because it's all very faint like it's far away.

I thought maybe it was some kind of tinnitus in my ears for awhile, but Sylvia said that the noise is leaking through from the spirit world. It was the talk and activities that the spirits are involved in and we tune into it when we are drifting into sleep although we are still awake.

I'm beginning to think that I am clairaudient. I also tried her method to find our my spirit guide's name. She said at night when lying in bed ask your spirit guide for her/his name. She said the name would be given to us by the third night.

It happened to me on the second night. A voice that was as clear and audible as if you were standing next to me talking said the word "Sara". I was so startled that I sat up in bed suddenly spooking the cat. Of course there was no one there.

Anybody else have this happen to them?

1. That's how my God and Mrs. God joke came to me.
Happens to me a LOT. That's why I LOVE going to bed at night!

2. Yes, I hear it all the time, even during the day when I'm wide awake.
I, too, thought it was tinnitus at first, but it's not a ringing sound. It does sound more like chattering or a conversation going on that I can quite hear clearly. Now that I know it's not just me, I'll have to investigate ways to hear more clearly. Thanks for posting this.

4. It used to happen to me all the time
I woke up once and tried to hum the tune and the beat of one of the most beautiful pieces of music I'd ever heard to my husband. I swore he was kidding when he said didn't hear it.

I used to see things too, sometimes they were not so nice things.

22. ooh, i love it when i tap into "The Symphony"
some of the sweetest music i've ever heard has been in the hour before waking and lingers through a langorous rousing. i always wished i had the capacity to write the lyrics or notation before it fades, but it so often fades so fast.

the voice thing, it's fun when it happens, but it isn't as common with me when going to sleep. i often go to sleep when i'm completely exhausted and usually quite late. but around mid to late morning is my absolute favorite time to sleep and lounge around in bed, something about that etheric connection, half-here-half-there feeling. beautiful sounds and visions at times, wish i could capture them better than our crude modern instruments and my lacking artistic skills.

So that's what it is.

When I met my spouse, I heard a voice say, "This is the one."

6. My mom has mentioned this happening to her.
Edited on Thu Apr-06-06 03:08 PM by Ariana Celeste
When I was 16 and opened up to my mom about my beliefs and some experiences, she told me that whenever she lays down for a nap she can hear conversation in the distance, and it continues throughout the whole time she's napping- and she rarely feels rested afterwards. She said sometimes she can clearly hear things being moved around but when she wakes up, everything is in it's place.

I don't hear that. I hear my name sometimes. I mainly just felt, rather then hear or see.

On edit: I felt I should mention, it is only when she lays down for a nap, she never mentioned anything about when she goes to sleep at night. I don't know if that's odd or not.

7. I don't hear things, but I do have a sensual experience often when
I am drifting off to sleep - and for this reason to I LOVE going to bed most nights, and sometimes for a nap.

What I experience is at first based on audio sensations - my sense of hearing - but it is always based on a real sound in the world - doesn't matter what it is, as long as it isn't too intrusive - and on that sound wave I feel like I leave my body and float on the sound wave.....difficult to express in words. It is as if I become "one" with the sound and travel with its wavelength. Absolutely delicious feeling, and one which makes me feel "more" than myself in this body.

It must be at the top of my list of intensely peasurable and satisfying sensations/expriences that I enjoy here in this life, and I remember it as little kid as well.

And in my dreams I have a whole different lifetime of experiences.....but that's another subject.

8. OMG, Cleita! Yes! Every night! I hear it and find myself trying...
to make out the words! It happens usually around 3:00 or 4:00 am, when I am still awake. It sounds like a lot of people talking at once, just a low murmur; I find myself straining to try to discern what they are saying! It is impossible to make out a separate conversation, but I keep trying. I also hear the music and that is also very faint but still audible! I often wonder if my late husband is there in the room with his friends and relatives in Heaven talking about me! LOL! I keep asking them to speak up, but have received no response so far! LOL! This is incredible! I'm glad, Cleita, to hear that I am not alone in this craziness! Thanks for bringing it up.

in a restaurant with glasses and cutlery on plates. I wonder if our late husbands are partying?

10. Thanks for letting me know that Sylvia is on Montel EVERY...
Wednesday! I didn't realize that she was on weekly; I'll have to tune in every Wednesday. By the way, I love Sylvia; I think she has a real ability, BUT, those fingernails! Have you noticed them? How does she deal with life with those nails? They curl around her fingers! I can't figure out how she can pick up, a pin, for instance, with those nails! Maybe, I'm just out of step, but I do not see the attraction for curled up nails, such as the ones she has!

Edited on Thu Apr-06-06 08:55 PM by Cleita
that he had abandoned you? I did and still do some times yet.

Yeah, and Sylvia uses that silvery nail polish on her claws too. I only knew one other woman who did that. I wonder how they get anything done. Sylvia is a writer too. If she does her own typing, how does she with those long curved fingernails?

13. Yes, I railed at him for months, for abandoning me! I had read,
after he passed, that we all know on a subconscious level when it is our time to go! In fact, he had told me a few months before he left the ministers (Rabbi and Methodist) that he wanted to perform his eulogy! He also told me to dispose of all of his papers from work and to not to try to pass them on to his colleagues. I thought it was a little strange and told him to not say such things! Honestly, he was telling me that his time was coming and I was too dense and unaware to accept or realize it! I've had some strange things happen after his death. I know that he is with me in spirit and I talk to him all the time.

14. Once in a great, great while, I will hear the chatter. Dimly.
Not surprisingly, it used to happen to me all. the. time when I was a child, and it would be stronger and clearer during periods of high fever. Once or twice, my mother said that when I was asleep, she heard me talking in my bedroom, extremely fast and garbled. Even as a kid, I knew I must have been unconsciously trying to repeat some of what I was hearing as the "chatter." But now that I'm an adult, it never happens anymore. That spirit guide thing is interesting. I'll have to try that. Supposedly, I have three guides. I don't know their names, but a reader told me they've been with me since birth.

23. Wow, BlueIris...that's when I could hear it the strongest, too...
when I had a fever. It was like people talking in the next room, the volume would go up and down, but I couldn't really make out the words.

15. Yes!
I've also heard it while very tired, and very late at night (or more correctly, very early in the morning, like 2 am or so, if I happen to be up. I have odd sleep cycles)I've heard it in the kitchen (coming from the basement).

It sounds like the din of a cocktail party, and I can often hear one voice that stands out above the rest, a male voice. (figures...lol) I took it as that...spirits. Some have been downstairs here and have noted something strange - not menacing, but feelings - but have not heard the voices.

16. I used to hear the chatter a lot...
I still do from time to time, though it never occured to me to ask for a name. I may try this!

It makes sense, though. When I was hearing the chatter, for me it sounded like whispering when I was drifting off to sleep. It only happened when I was actively practicing spirituality, for some reason I was more 'in tune' during those times.

Anyway, it frequently kept me awake at night, so I started to say things like, "...please be quiet--I need to sleep." And it would stop. So I suppose if I asked for a name it may have given me one. Wowzers!

18. I hear the chatter frequently
I thought I was just dreaming. Sometimes I try to remember what was being said (I usually fall asleep and wake up several times before finally sleeping for the night) but I have never succeeded- unlike dreams which I sometimes remember if I try. I am a former sleepwalker as well - is that related?

19. When I was a very young child,
before the age of five, I used to hear voices as I was falling asleep. It seemed as if two, three, or four invisible adults were nearby talking to me. I often heard them say my name. I assumed everyone heard such things, and didn't think much of it, and didn't really try to communicate back. Wonder what would have happened if I had.

By the time I was seven or so the voices disappeared, and it was only much, much later, as an adult, that I realized hearing voices like that probably wasn't all that common.

At some point I came to the conclusion that it was spirits of some kind trying to contact me, but I still don't think it's all that important. Interesting, but not important. But it's somewhat reassuring to learn that others also hear voices when falling asleep.

In a related vein, a psychic once told me that if you pay attention to the images that come to you when falling asleep, you may well get clues and cues to previous lifetimes.

20. Sweeeetttt!
This happens to me all the time. It was so loud the first time I noticed, I went to make sure the TVs were off; they were. It wasn't coming from outside either. I asked my psychic friend about this and she said I was tapping into the other side and hearing "echos" of past, present, and future events in "real time." My ability is more focused on past events, though.

The most interesting one I heard was a party. I could hear an opera, most likely on a record player or phonograph, because it was so "scratchy." I could hear people laughing and talking, glass clinking. I realized that the conversations were in German. I speak very little German, so I could only make out a few words here and there.

I have heard a variety of other things. When I would put my partner in bed, I would sit up and tell him what I was hearing. All of this comes from one place in the house. It is the same spot that my cat will sometimes sit at and stare.

Of course when I am spaced, or very focused, I can hear other things as well. I once had a conversation with my partner, even though he was in the other room, and thought I was talking on the phone! At least I thought it was him, as the voice sounds like his. The "person" came up behind me and I was looking for something on my computer, so my back was to the door. I said out-loud to myself I was looking for such and such. The 'voice' told me where to look, so I did and found what I was looking for. I kept talking about something personal, when I didn't get a response, I turned around and saw no one, so I had figured he went back to the living room. So, I walked in there and said "Why did you leave, I wasn't finished talking." He said "What are you talking about?" I told him about the conversation, and he looked at me and said, "I heard you talking, but didn't hear anyone else, so I assumed you were on the phone because you weren't yelling for me. I haven't left the couch for the last hour...so it wasn't me you were talking to." I wish that would happen again and "the voice" tell me what the winning lottery numbers are! :)

21. People are poly egos.
Most people just aren't aware of it. So when another self speaks up,and gets through it seems like another being.

For transpersonal psychologists "the illusion of separate selfhood" is recognized as a limitation of consciousness, the cloud of ignorance that obscures the fuller realization of self (which joins -- by reciprocal opening -- consciousness to compassion) of the paradox that by being one's self "fully" consciously, "one is other". Many transpersonalists see this humanistic psychology self too tied to this illusion of separateness. Many see it too bogged down at the level of personal feelings and id ego demands. Viewed from the vantage of a transpersonal, the self often implied in humanistic psychology activities can appear narcissistic, locked in ignorant pursuits (including certain ideas of "self-actualization") which are illusory in the belief that they will bring fulfillment.
http://www.skaggs-island.org/humanistic/arons.html

What exactly happens at that critical stage when the newborn becomes aware that he is different, not an extension of the other objects in his environment, or when shortly thereafter he takes that qualitative jump to self-consciousness?
