How do I remove another person's energy from fabric?

I know, odd question. Here's the deal. I am about to receive a "thank you" gift from someone I barely know. The gift is a scarf that belonged to this person's now-deceased (young) spouse.

Is there any way to remove the spouse's energy from the scarf? (I don't intend to wear it, but I certainly don't want to pass it on to someone else. I never met the owner so I have no idea what that person was like.)

Where in my house can I store it?

but that's me - I'm sensitive enough that if I'm standin next to someone with a headache or stomachache - I feel it, and I have to check whether it's theirs or mine. :)

With stones which carry energy, you are supposed to put them in a dish with salt water and put the dish out in the sun - for cleansing.

Hmmmm. Interesting. One has to wonder if washing in the same manner - with suds and salt and drying in the sun would do the same.

Somehow, I doubt it, but I'm not sure.

2. Clearing energy

If I might also suggest that before washing the scarf you hold it in your hands and with all your will focused on the outcome, tell the scarf to be cleansed. If you happen to do Reiki, use Reiki to clear it - use both the physical and emotional glyphs.

After washing, hang it to dry in the sun. Before storing it away, or passing it on, hold it in your hands and again send energy to cleanse it.

If you are going to store it, if you can find some silk to wrap it in. Black is traditional, but you can use any color. If you want you can program a clear quartz crystal with the intent that it keep the scarf clear of any influences of the former owner and put the crystal in with the scarf when you put it away.

3. for any kind of cleansing

my girlfriend used to go to the ocean - soak the body and/or object, do/say a release ritual/prayer for the highest good of all. Reconstituting sea salt with distilled water works if you do not live by the ocean.

Another quick thought on this - the energy from another person in an object is not always bad. In fact, the words 'guardian angel presence' come to mind.
Before you do anything, you might want to meditate on whether it is the energy of the person that you wish to be rid of, or the fact that it represents death and it is the association with death itself that you are having a hard time reconciling with.

7. Sage smudge?

I typically use sage smudge to purify or neutralize objects. It does a good job, and leaves the object and the space around it smelling so sweet. Just burn it well, and pass every bit of the scarf through he smoke. I wouldn't wear the scarf, either, but I might keep it on my altar for a while, and give a thought or two to its wearer to help her find her way on the other side.

31. I'm with you on the sage, Crowdance

when in doubt...sage it....better than washing an unknown fabric.

I'd use some nice white sage and maybe a bit of cedar if possible.
Also if possible, let it out in the fresh air/sun/moon for at least 24 hours .....
....nice thought about the prayers for the original owner,too.

That's what microwaves do.

I'd suggest getting a saging ceremony. I use it everytime I move to a new place. Hasn't failed me yet.

29. What fabric is this scarf?

You should cleanse it in whatever way is best for the fabric involved if you wish to keep the scarf.

On a side note; when I was investigating cleansing my stones, there was a warning that certain types of cleansing can harm the stones. For instance, some stones will lose there color if placed in bright sunlight - opals and amethysts. Other stones can be destroyed or severely damaged by placing them in salt water. So, you might want to make sure whatever method you choose doesn't harm the fabric. I took the advice from the person from whom I bought my stones - intention matters most. It relies on the FOCUSING of your energy, and focusing your intentions on the scarf. I hope this helps.

30. Florida water works wonders

I mix 1/2 Florida Water & 1/2 water in a spray bottle and spray it around my altar - it smells great and traditionally is used to get rid of unwanted or negative influences.

Salt is also a good tool for neutralizing unwanted energy.

First, wash or dry clean the scarf.
Second, draw your hands along the scarf, imagining that you are pulling the unwanted energy from it and fling that energy away from you. Visualize, or acknowledge that energy returning to the source of all energy - where it becomes undifferentiated.
Third - spray or sprinkle Florida Water on the scarf.

Actually, intention is probably the most important tool to use.

if it's dry-clean only (and even if it's not). You can also use some of the washing and salt/water suggestions if that won't negatively affect the fabric.

When you smudge you can use your intention (who was it who said intention was an important part of this?) to cleanse only the negative or unhelpful energies, if any, and leave the positive.

Sweetgrass brings the angelic spirits to raise the thing being smudged to a more positive level.

The sage chases away the negative energy, the cedar imparts further cleansing, and grounding for the cleanse, and sweetgrass brings in a more positive spirit...a new vibration....sweetness.

35. Use crystals that have been cleaned with salt water..

remove the crystals...and add some pine needles and sage..use the water to soak the material..and then wash and hang in the sunlight to dry. sound also will help...if you have a good bell..ring it over the item...when you have soaked the item, put the remaining water in a spray bottle...and walk around your whole house..spraying and ringing the bell..open a window if it is not too cold where you live..try this...u can feel..and even hear in the bell sounds where negative energy has built up in your house. this will clear your home of negative energy.
